Antique and rare, two Royal Doulton mini vases, 1911, HB / LA
These are two very small, very old, very exquisite, mini vases made by Royal Doulton. Both vases are in perfect condition. There are no scratches, cracks, or chips on either piece. The finish on each is also in outstanding condition, without any signs of crazing whatsoever. The bottom marks tell us a lot about these two little fellows, but they don’t tell us everything. These pieces carry the company mark that was in use from 1901 until 1922 at Burslem. After 1922 a similar back stamp was used, however, it was missing the crown. These pieces are quite rare as it was a mark that was not widely used. That last sentence is from an article on the internet, not us! The designers’ inscribed Initials. These initials are done by hand however they are unique in that they are inscribed and not written on the pieces. We believe those are Herbert Betteley’s initials and have done extensive comparisons to validate that assumption. There is a picture included with some comparisons for you. The “a” with the two rectangles one on top of the other is the signature mark used by Lizzie Axford. This came from one source, and we could not find any further information regarding Ms. However, if you search “Royal Doulton, Lizzie Axford” you will see other works credited to her. Those pesky numbers by the rim (7660). They are there, we’ve seen them on other pieces, but we are not sure exactly what they designate. It may be the pattern number, but a pattern number should have a single character before it, these do not. However, there are limited options as to what you are going to find stamped on a Royal Doulton and the pattern number is the only thing that starts to make sense. WE ARE NOT Royal Doulton experts. We did put our time into researching these pieces and believe the information above is accurate. However, we cannot, and do not guarantee this information. What we do guarantee is that we will never, knowingly, put any false or misleading information in any of our listings. Yeah, we’re pretty confident we got the story straight on these vases. Also, please note that none of our prices are set in stone. If you like what you see, but the price is too low, we will raise it for you! Or we can go the other way as well. Just drop us a note; it never hurts to ask. This item is in the category “Antiques\Other Antiques”. The seller is “brad.white” and is located in this country: US. Rare PAIR Antique French Empire Marble Glass Vases. Stunning very rare quality pair of antique French Empire swirl glass marble. Beautifully decorated Napoleonic Empire style gilt brass/bronze mounts. They are not signed. Condition is generally very good and remarkable considering their age and still together as a pair… There are some tiny pieces missing on the gilt mounts around the body with the mounts on one vase been re-attached at some point and is about a 1/4 shorter with a small slither of glass missing near the base as shown… Very hard to tell unless very closely scrutinised. All as shown and does not detract in anyway as the photos show. They have a great aged patina with some rubbing, marking, scratches etc loss of gilt…. All nothing major, but noted. The pair measure overall 11″tall (one measures 10.75″) and 7″ across with a base diameter of 3.25″ and a top rim diameter of 3.5. RARE Pair Meiji Early Japanese Gold /Silver Wire Cloisonne Enamel Vases -Geishas
RARE Fine Pair Meiji Early Japanese Silver Wire Cloisonne Enamel Vases -Geishas. A very beautiful antique Rare Pair Early Meiji cloisonne vases. The plentiful colors are brilliant and gold and silver wire detail is outstanding. The ground color is uncommon and beautiful. I would call it a yellow-green, if that helps. These vases are very, very old, exhibit very high standard of fine Japanese hand craftsmanship. From the early, early Meiji Period, the cloison detail work in gold an silver wire was certainly performed by a master of Japanese cloisonne. These antique vases are in excellent original condition. No evidence of trauma, but some hairline cracks can be seen in photos. I believe these are from age or the period made. Some normal wear to base. Vases display very beautifully. The recurring white spot is flash off high gloss finish. These may not be shiny and perfect like the newer ones, but these are the’real deal’, if you like very old, original pieces. And they are beautiful. Approximate size is 6 tall. Please see photos as an integral part of this description. Sometimes the camera catches what I don’t. Please ask any questions. From my own personal collection, these fine vases would be an excellent addition to your own cloisonne collection. All reasonable offers considered. Please check my other auctions. I pack very promptly and securely. The item “RARE Pair Meiji Early Japanese Gold /Silver Wire Cloisonne Enamel Vases -Geishas” is in sale since Saturday, September 14, 2019.
