Rare early & small rectangular silver protractor by Jonathan Sisson, c. 1735

A rare and luxuous English rectangular protractor made in silver, engraved J. The protractor, small in size, measures 10.8cmx3.3cm. As well as the usual angular scale the instrument two line of 1-180 degrees and on the other side a diagonal scale for plotting distances on a map or plan ; on the other side, 6 reduction or chart scales. English silver instruments from this period are rare. For another example of a nearly similar size but later produced by Nairne, see Catalogue of the Andrew Alpern Collection number 11, pages 22-23. The penultimate photo shows the image of a Sisson trade card illustrating this same type of protractor, and the last photo shows the size difference between a standard-sized rectangular protractor and this example by Sisson.

Rare Antique Toad Bookends Silvered Copper On Marble Bases SUZANNE BIZARD 1920’s

A stunning and rare pair of original early 20thC (1920’s) art Nouveau / Art Deco French Silvered Copper Toad Bookends on heavy solid grey marble bases. There is an engraved plaque on each stating the sculptor’s name as S. BIZARE – actually a misspell of the actual sculptor’s name Suzanne Bizard 1873 – 1973 (due to the silent “d” no doubt). Each piece is in similar age related condition with copper showing through the silver plating and age related polish and dirt created a charming original age related patina. There is Ageworn red velvet applied to the marble base. Size 12cm high x 16cm long x 10cm wide. They are both very solid and heavy – my scales only go up to 1 kilo – I imagine that these weigh approx 2 – 3 kg each. Later ceramic versions of these bookends were produced in the mid 20thC century but this pair are the original 1920’s fully cast silvered copper versions on solid marble bases and are therefore highly decorative and original – please refer to the photos thanks! A superb addition to any bookends / toad collection!

Rare Antique Hertwig Nodding Dog or Bear. Bisque Porcelain. Germany Early 1900s

An extremely rare early example of a nodding dog or bear, made of bisque porcelain in Germany in the early 1900s. It is probably by Hertwig and would make a superb addition to a collection of’nodders’ or vintage toy collectibles. The matt porcelain is white with brown hand-painted colour to the animal’s face and body. The head is permanently attached to the body by a wire pin which is in good working order and, as you can see from the video, there is plenty of nodding action! This lovely little piece, which is unmarked, is in excellent condition. There is very small nick underneath the head – I only noticed it when studying the photos so it’s really hard to see. However I have taken it into account when pricing. Please note that some of these photos were taken in golden yellow sunlight. The more accurate colour is on the video. Do have a good look at all the pics and ask away if you require any further info or images. Nose to tail the figure is approx 8 cms (3.15 inches) long and stands 4.5 cms (1.75 inches) tall.

RARE EARLY to MID 18th. CENTURY LARGE HAND PAINTED. DELFT WALL PLAQUE of a RURAL SCENE. This is a wonderful early to mid 18th. Century hand painted blue and white Delft tin glazed plaque of Dutch origin. In a square form with decorative cantered corners it depicts a lovely hand painted stylised image of a rural scene on the edge of a town environment with a group of three beneath a tree with agricultural implements in the foreground. It is contained inside a raised decorative border with a suspension point above, while the reverse has a light blue glaze and an under-glaze hand painted’P’ – see photographs and details. It measures 10 3/4 (27.25cm) Sq. Approx; and is in very good condition for a piece of tin glazed faience of its age however, there are two shallow very, very (they may even have been present when it was made) old sliver chips to the reverse bottom right hand edge and some small frits to its face side, to report – see photographs and details. This is a lovely, unusual Delft hand painted Wall Plaque with an interesting subject, which with a low start price should get a good deal of interest from all collectors. THERE IS NO RESERVE ON THIS SALE. Almost everything I sell is in the condition I have bought it, unless otherwise stated, (I have learnt to my cost in the past not to tamper with an item), and therefore I have neither had items repaired nor restored.
