This is a rare and beautiful original Wemyss bowl from the first pottery in Fife Scotland. After the first world war Wemeyss ware went out of fashion. The 1920s were known as the Jazz Age so the then head designer, Edwin Sandland introduced the Jazzy range in an attempt to regain business, it didn’t work and they went out of business in 1930 and moved the whole business down to Devon, this piece was made around 1920 before the move to Bovey Tracy in Devon. The fact that this range didn’t save the company gives it that rarity value. The bowl is 11 cm in diameter and 13 cm high. An original rare Zeotrope or sometimes known as’Wheel of Life’ with a selection of paper & cardboard cards. Possibly German made around 1880. The instrument freely spins on the iron pivot although it does wobble a bit – maybe due to use. Wooden base has some old wood-worm to one side. Original black paint is scratched in places as you would expect for an item this old. Height 36cms; diameter of cylinder 30.4cms. This is a rarely found genuine example & not to be confused with reproduction or made up examples! I often use recycled materials & carefully extra pack the items to arrive safely. To be pre 1920’s as number in bottom corner may date to 1899. Religious bible verse with meaning Matthew 18:3. Has been on an outside wall with the same family for over 40+ years. Large bold enamel sign that makes you smile and very rare. Sign would of been made by Patent Co that stopped trading in 1960. Has mainly age wear around the outside edge of the sign. Measurement size of 40″ x 24″ inches and a heavy sign. Sign has been touched up at some point on the yellow and black around the letter as & ye.
