A wonderful antique carved’Nupe’ or’Spider’ stool. A genuine early example of traditional African craftsmanship, caved from a single lump of African harwood, the stool is raised on seven tapering legs. The top is beautifully docorated with traditional Nupe geometric carvings & has the most beautiful depth of colour with a wonderful patina. W: 45.5cm (17.9). D: 46.5cm (18.3). Wear commensurate with age, good overall. An antique rather than a cheap tourist piece & came from an amazing collection of early tribal art, both the top & one of the legs show signs of old repairs to cracks which do notghing to detract. Very rare and beautiful rosewood triangular folding side table by Illum Wikkelsø for CFC Silkeborg of Denmark, sometime in the 1950s. Ingenius and delicate construction, solid rosewood legs and edging, fabulous flamed veneer to the top, the best I’ve seen. Take a look on the net. These are very few and far between, I have counted two pairs and just three individual examples, none with a veneer as spectacular as this. In beautiful original condition, brass hinges and a neat sprung ball and peg’stop’ for the swing-out gate leg. Nice and firm, no wobbles, reassuringly smooth action. Alas the Silkeborg badge has dropped out of its recess at some point in the past. You will see that to the underside. I found a photograph so you know what to look for when you’re out and about! In the sale today we have a Beautiful Victorian Console table. Made using Rosewood with Druce & Co London, badge underneath. Lovely turning to the legs and supports which are sturdy and strong. The Rosewood top has a wonderful grain, there is a small patch that is lifting. Please see last photo for a closer look at this. Small open joint to the top too. Some small pieces of veneer missing around the edge and some light marks to the top. Really beautiful table that is in great condition for its age/ use. A fantastic & rare early Dugdills work lamp. A wonderful, early model with a heavy cast iron base, articulated arm & green & white enamel shade. The subtle differences to later models set this lamp apart from the rest, the brass addition to the upright, the diminutive base & the original enamel shade finished with a black rim. An exceptionally original example of a lamp which rarely turns up for sale any more. Rewired in twisted black flex. Wear commensurate with age, very good overall.
