This rare example of Antique Metallic Embroidery from the Early Qing Dynasty in the 1700s is a fragment from a silk robe. It is a long length of faded silk damask that is embellished with floral motifs and butterflies in a fine metallic soutache work. Every motif is different. The pink of the fabric is faded as you can see from the reverse side but this does not detract from the beauty of this piece in fact for me it enhances its ancient charm. Measures approx 68ins x 16.5ins. Condition: Good for its age. Some frayed areas to the binding edge but otherwise the silk ground although faded is generally quite good and not splitting. THERE IS A HIGH INTEREST IN THIS ERA AS MUCH ABOUT THIS TIME PERIOD AND IT’S PIECES ARE STILL BEING FOUND OUT TO THIS DAY. AND MAY VERY WELL BE A IMPERIAL WORKSHOP MADE VASE AS THE WORK MATCHES TOP CRAFTSMAN’S WORK WITH LAYERS OF ART EVIDENT. THE TONING OF THE BRONZE IS OF FLASHY STYLE GREAT TIME AND CARE WERE PUT INTO THE PRODUCTION OF THIS WORK. AND WITH IT’S PROVENCE COMING FROM A BEIJING ANTIQUE SHOP MANY YEARS AGO IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE AS TO HOW WE WERE ABLE TO RETRIEVE SUCH A RARITY. GOTHEBORG MENTIONS THE 4 CHARACTER MARK IN THE “QIANLONG” ERA AND WHEN USED MENT OF IMPERIAL NATURE OR GREAT IMPORTANCE MOST IF NOT ALL OF THE TIME. I INDEED DID DO MORE RESEARCH AND FOUND A SIMILAR MARK THAT DATES MUCH EARLIER THAN EARLY REPUBLIC. RASIED EXTERIOR ON OLDER CHINESE PIECES ARE VERY HIGH IN VALUE AND IMPORTANT. THIS IS DUE TO THE PIECE MOST LIKELY BEING IMPERIAL WORKSHOP MADE GOTHEBORG MENTIONS THIS ALSO. I WOULD LIKE TO STATE THAT THIS PIECE IS ONE OF THE TWO ERA’S BOTH BEING HIGHLY COLLECTED WE JUST ARE NOT SURE WHICH ONE AS BOTH HAVE SIMILAR MARKS. WE ASK THAT YOU DO YOUR RESEARCH ALSO AS IT IS WELL DESERVED FOR SUCH A PIECE. THE SIZE & AMOUNT OF ARTISTRY, THE RAISED FLORAL DEPICTIONS ALL POINT TO IMPERIAL WORKSHOP DOING. THE NECK IS VERY UNIQUE AND IS CARVED IN A WAY TO EXPLOIT A ROYAL ANCIENT TECHNIQUE VERY SURREAL. LOOKING AT THE TOP PHOTO IS DEPICTED SCRAPING ECT TO FORM OR SMOOTHEN THE TEXTURE. THE BOTTOM MARK READS BASICALLY MADE IN QIANLONG OF QING DYNASTY BUT THERE IS A UNIQUE ADDITIVE SEEMINGLY. THE TOP LEFT CHARACTER ACTUALLY BRINGS “QIANLONG NIAN ZHI” TENTATIVE DATE EARLY REPUBLIC ACCORDING TO GOTHEBORG RECORDS INTO THE PICTURE. BUT WHEN FACTORING IN THE ADVANCED AGED LOOK AND MARKINGS IT ALSO COULD BE ASSUMED AS AN IMPERIAL MADE PIECE YUZHI QIANLONG EMPEROR BY COMMAND. MANY BEIJING SHOPS OFFER COMPLETE FAKES NOW A DAYS. MOST ANTIQUE BEIJING SHOPS FROM THE OLD DAYS WERE ABOUT REAL QUALITY WORKS. ONES THAT WERE MENT TO STAND FOR MEANING AND RESPECT TO THE EFFORTS PUT INTO MAKING THE PIECE CHINESE WORTHY. NOW WE SHALL RETURN TO THE SCARCENESS OF THIS VESSEL OR VASE. THE VASE IS ALMOST IN DEDICATION TO THE KANGXI PERIOD AS FAR AS THE FLOWERS GO AND WHAT DETAIL. WE MUST KEEP IN MIND THAT THE KANGXI PERIOD REALLY TOOK FLORAL DEPICTIONS TO THE EXTREME. NATURE WAS HIGHLY ADVERTISED ALONG WITH ALL THAT MOTHER NATURE HAS TO OFFER. THIS WOULD MAKE SENSE FOR THE ELABORATE FLORAL MOULDED WORK LITERALLY POPPING OFF THE SIDES OF THIS BRONZE PIECE. EVEN THOUGH EARLY CHINESE REPUBLIC PIECES ARE HIGHLY COLLECTED THIS PIECE SEEMS MUCH OLDER BUT WE WILL LET YOU BE THE JUDGE ON THIS ALSO. ROYAL PIECES WERE OFTEN REPRODUCTIONS OF EARLIER STYLED WORKS THEY WOULD OFTEN MIMIC THE BEST FROM THE PAST IMPERIALS.
