Antique M Klein & Sons 9 inch lineman, plier with date code 2-13 denoting that they were produced in February of 1913-just after the adoption and trademarking of the 1912 climbing lineman logo. The stamp reads 1 M Klein & Sons 2-13. These are an incredibly rare artifact from the Klein Tool Company and a relic of the electrical journeyman and lineman trades. Knowledge of this illustrates both the collectibility and rarity of early variation of lineman pliers made by Klein. As one might expect these pliers have been well-used. And as is often the case, on their face where the logo is stamped, is quite battered through honest use in the field. Furthermore, at some point, a previous owner drilled three small holes in the jaws and filed each down to use as wire stripper, while leaving most of the cutting feature intact. Normally, we’d conclude that the customization decreases the overall value of the tool. However, given the fact that it is indeed a tool, and the modifications are consistent with the trades in which the tool was created for, we feel that these alterations, made for obvious industry use, actually adds value to the item by contributing to the plier’s authenticity, while adding a rich layer of history regarding the profession itself. A truly rare, unique, and antique industry tool from a very collectible name synonymous with power and electrical work. This item will surely be the crown of any collection. Don’t miss this opportunity.
