Rare Early 19th Century AMERICAN Primitive Carved Wood & Painted WASH BOARD
For sale is a very early 19th century American carved wood wash board. This is a very primitive early design, likely made around the time the wash board was invented in the 1830s. It’s made from a single piece of hardwood and has hand carved grooves on both sides. Also features a hand painted flower design on the top. You can tell by the wear along the top edge of the wood, the paint was already there before the wear. The wash board has a beautiful patina from use over nearly 200 years! The grooves have partly worn down, especially in the middle, and have attained a smooth finish. This is from many years of use scrubbing clothes. The wash board measures 54cm long by 12cm wide (21″ x 4 3/4″). This is a very rare piece of American washing history! There are very few wash boards of this age left in existence, especially in this condition. It’s a museum quality piece, you won’t be disappointed. We use Australia Post and only charge the actual cost of sending. All fragile items will be packed with void fill and bubble wrap in a box. We include many photos and they form part of the description. We take extra care to be accurate. This item is in the category “Antiques\Other Antiques”. The seller is “collectitonline” and is located in this country: AU. This item can be shipped worldwide.

Welcome to Room 8 Interiors! Specialising in interesting vintage, antique & very often unique period items including lighting, furniture, advertising & decorative pieces. A wonderful antique carved’Nupe’ or’Spider’ stool. A genuine early example of traditional African craftsmanship, caved from a single lump of African harwood, the stool is raised on seven tapering legs. The top is beautifully docorated with traditional Nupe geometric carvings & has the most beautiful depth of colour with a wonderful patina. W: 45.5cm (17.9). D: 46.5cm (18.3). Wear commensurate with age, good overall. An antique rather than a cheap tourist piece & came from an amazing collection of early tribal art, both the top & one of the legs show signs of old repairs to cracks which do notghing to detract. I’d rather this was collected in person but a UK courier service is always possible, please enquire for details. Antique Early 18th Century Oak Coffer with Rare Carved Name & Date 1731
Large Antique Solid Oak Coffer Chest. Period Oak Country Antique Coffer is of pegged construction. Which has a name and the date of 1731 carved at the base. Also has a later candle box. We believe the carved name and date would probably be of a much later date to the coffer as was so often the case, this would therefore make this a much earlier piece, and seeing its construction and the oak planks age could well be as early as 16th Century! Amazing period antique still has its original hinges to the lid above a detailed carved panelled front. This charming antique Oak Coffer stands on raised feet and is beautifully aged and with good patina. It has a large internal space. There are signs of old historic woodworm throughout – this is long gone and has been fully treated as a precaution. It has also been cleaned using a traditional form of antique wax finishing to feed the wood. This item is in the category “Antiques\Antique Furniture\Trunks & Chests”.
