The Wolfhound of the Aristocracy, the Borzoi’s elegant curvaceous outline and luxuriant coat and long, lean head make him a memorable and imposing sight. The word Borzoi means’swift’. Borzois hunted in pairs and held the wolf down until the hunters arrived. The breed was well established in Russia by 16th century and was probably developed from Greyhound type dogs crossed with long haired sheepdogs and imported Irish Greyhounds and wolf dogs. Sitzendorfer Porzellanmanufaktur Wilhelm Liebmann was established in 1850. Most of the manufactory was demolished in 1858 in a blast. It was rebuild by Liebmann with a help of his business partner Wilhelm Oertel. In 1884 the factory was bought by Alfred and Carl Wilhelm Voigt. In 1890 Unterweißbach subsidiary was opened. In 1896 the business was turned into a limited stock company. Financial problems because of the WWI and later World Financial Crisis forced the factory to close the Unterweißbach branch in 1928. Four years later the financial situation improved thanks to efforts of Reinhold Rebhan and Max Krauße. New owners named the factory Sitzendorfer Porzellanmanufaktur A. During the WWII the factory production was concentrated on war-related items. In 1958 East Germany government started to influence the factory management. In 1972 it was nationalized. In 1990 the Sitzendorf factory was privatized. In 2012 production was completely stopped. This item is in the category “Pottery, Ceramics & Glass\Decorative Pottery, Ceramics & Glass\Figurines”. Leffler worked at Weller beginning in 1920, and he moved to California in 1928, so his work is hard to find. The lamp is 6″ wide at its widest point, and the painted wood base is 5.5″ wide. Condition: the lamp needs to be rewired, but the pottery is in very good condition with no loss or other problems. This will look wonderful when it is rewired and a shade is on it. Early Sibbo Loungette Chair in Oak Signed Yngve Ekstrom Stolab mid century rare
I have owned this for 15 years and bought it from the original owner who bought it from the Stolab factory, a Swedish lady living in London who nursed her babies in this very chair. It has bags of charm and lovely original patina as well as a pencil signature’Sibbo 5887 Ek’ which I presume is for Ekstrom. It might even be by his own hand. Here’s a little bit about this rare chair. The Sibbo chair designed by Yngve Ekström for Stolab, Sweden, circa 1950. The Sibbo chairs are referred to as’loungettes’ on the basis of their petite size. The design has a wide seat -characteristic of Ekström- but the chairs are squat in every other respect. Aesthetically, each part of the chair is distinct, the top rail, seat, arms, spindles, and legs are all unique in shape, but the individual forms are equally strong. Although small and created entirely from wood, the loungettes are perfectly formed and provide a surprising amount of comfort to the sitter. The slender and sculptural form also creates a brilliant visual lightness that means the chairs would fit into even the most challenging of spaces. The chair is structurally perfect with only the smallest of nicks to the back and the oak used throughout boasts the original un molested finish and a lovely aged patina. Any questions please ask. The item “Early Sibbo Loungette Chair in Oak Signed Yngve Ekstrom Stolab mid century rare” is in sale since Wednesday, August 25, 2021.
