Original Rare Wemyss Ware Vase / Bowl c 1920s Jazzy / Moorland Pattern
This is a rare and beautiful original Wemyss bowl from the first pottery in Fife Scotland. After the first world war Wemeyss ware went out of fashion. The then head designer Edwin Sandland introduced the Jazzy range in an attempt to regain business, it didn’t work and they went out of business in 1930 and moved the whole business down to Devon, this piece was made around 1920 before the move to Bovey Tracy in Devon. The fact that this range didn’t save the company gives it that rarity value. The bowl is 11 cm in diameter and 13 cm high. This item is in the category “Pottery, Ceramics & Glass\Decorative Pottery, Ceramics & Glass\Figurines”. The seller is “cosmicjive1″ and is located in this country: GB. Rare George I Hanoverian pattern basting spoon Zacariah Williams Plymouth c1718
A rare and wonderful George I Hanoverian pattern West Country silver basting spoon with a rat tail. The spoon is struck with the maker’s mark only, the Britannia Standard silver mark for Zacariah Williams of Plymouth, which he entered in 1717. Contemporary block initials’D over H. S’ to the reverse of the terminal. A heavy, tactile and pleasing spoon and a very rare collector’s piece. Britannia silver is an alloy of silver containing 11 ounces and 10 pennyweight silver in the pound troy, equivalent to 95.83% by weight silver, the balance being usually copper. This higher standard of silver content of 958 parts per thousand was introduced in England by Act of Parliament in 1697 to replace sterling silver (92.5% silver) as the obligatory standard for items of “wrought plate”. The lion passant gardant hallmark denoting sterling was replaced with “the figure of a woman commonly called Britannia”, and the leopard’s head mark of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths replaced with a “lion’s head erased”. Britannia standard silver was introduced as part of the great recoinage scheme of William III from 1696, when attempts were made to limit the clipping and melting of sterling silver coinage. A higher standard for wrought plate meant that sterling silver coins could not easily be used as a source of raw material because additional fine silver, which was in short supply at the time, would have to be added to bring the purity of the alloy up to the higher standard. Britannia silver is considerably softer than sterling, and after complaints from the trade sterling silver was authorised again for use by silversmiths from 1 June 1720, and thereafter Britannia silver has remained an optional standard for hallmarking in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The spoon is in super collector’s condition with really good definition to the maker’s mark, the inscribed initials, the rat tail and the terminal. Some wear from use to the leading edge of the bowl. Zacariah Williams Plymouth c 1718 Miles Harrison p294. I have many stunning pieces of collector’s silver in my shop, please look at my other items. I aim only to list antique silver items that are without damage, repair, alteration or undue wear. My silver pieces are ideal as special gifts, for collectors, for investors, or for resale by dealers. I provide clear descriptions and photos. The silver is photographed in flat natural light, but silver is so reflective that black spots from the camera and other reflections are sometimes unavoidable. Please check the dimensions of the object carefully as apparent size can be deceptive. Bank details provided on request. Sizes, weights etc are all approximate. This item is in the category “Antiques\Silver\Solid Silver\Cutlery”. The seller is “carlyonsilver” and is located in this country: GB. This item can be shipped worldwide.

RARE EARLY 19th C FILIPINO MORO SULU DATU KRIS withSUPERB TWISTCORE PATTERN WELD
RARE & DESIRABLE EARLY PERIOD PHILIPPINE MORO SULU DATU ARCHAIC FORM KRIS w/SUPERB CHISELED TWISTCORE PATTERN BLADE. A good early example with a classic Sulu style kakatua form pommel. The handle itself of plaited twine, with very clean cast silver bands at the base of the handle and pommel that are a distinctive Sulu stylistic attribute. The double asang-asang are in silver and finely formed. A more ornate Sulu kris is illustrated in Wetzler (2020) and which has this angularity to the grip. The 5 luk blade is a superb example of a twistcore steel blade with an archaic shape indicated by the fullering at the base of the blade, the ganja, and the twistcore pattern. While the style is in the archaic form, archaic blades often display softer wave crests while the base crest on this blade is more angular in form and therefore pushesthis example into the 19th century as opposed to an 18th century dating. Furthermore, the handle and kakatua have a flatter form on the sides, also indicating slightly later dating than the 18th century. Dating to the 19th century. Total Length (inside scabbard if present) : 28″ Blade Length : 21 1/4″References:1. (1995) Land of the Morning: Treasures of the Philippines, San Francisco Craft & Folk Museum, 1995.3. RARE EARLY 19TH CENTURY AME RI CAN FOLK ART, ANTIQUE, PENNSYLVANIA or NEW ENGLAND, PRIMITIVE, WHEEL -THROWN & HAND DECORATED REDWARE CERAMIC BOWL. Featuring DOUBLE BANDED PATTERN with. [Found in a Connecticut River Valley, western Massachusetts early home]. Early 19th century Pennsylvania & New England hand decorated redware ceramic plates, bowls, chargers & other decorative objects. 9 12″ Width x 3″ Height. Offered for your review and consideration is this absolutely fantastic and very clean, rare, early 19th century Pennsylvania or New England, wheel-thrown and hand decorated redware ceramic bowl, featuring a double banded interior basin with leaves, raised outer sill and a cleated, raised bottom. This very scarce work of early 19th century Ame ri can folk art is completely hand painted with butter and vermillion green colored slip glaze, with semi-transparent sepia brown thin line, complimenting the quick, gesturally painted thicker bands of butter colored glaze, punctuated with swaths of a repeating green leaf motif. The graphic iconography of the bowl’s interior basin is consistent with other similar redware plates and bowls of the same period and region. This particular bowl has extremely gestural, kinetically applied slip glaze, which was actively applied to the bowl’s interior. The exterior sidewalls are unglazed and show the raw, kiln-fired redware, featuring naturally aged clay patina. There are only a few very minor touches around the rim. No hairline cracks, repairs (old or new) or’in-painting. The bowl remains as it was taken from the Deerfield, Massachusetts early, post and beam home and sprawling estate. An incredibly well-preserved and rare early 19th century and early Ame ri can antique cultural artifact. Nearly as old as dirt and very rare, especially intact and nearly unblemished, as is this beautiful piece of early 19th century antique Ame ri can redware. Very Good to Excellent overall antique condition. The item “RARE EARLY 19TH C AMERICAN ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE REDWARE BOWL, WithBANDED LEAF PATTERN” is in sale since Wednesday, September 15, 2021.
