A RARE 19th CENTURY OLD ORIGINAL EARLY”CASH GROCERIES” SAND PAINT WOOD TRADE SIGN. A genuine original 1800s hanging groceries sign. This sign measures 47” x 18” x 1” and is double sided with each side reading different proprietors. The paint is early black sand paint with smooth silverish lettering having exceptional authentic age character. There is an old repair to a split along the length. Not too noticeable at all especially on the one side. The sign has the original early sign painters makers mark in the bottom middle of the one side. A very nice size for wall display. Circa late 1800s/early 1900s this is a unique piece and its look is true primitive as they come. Has 26 pull out drawers and 5 inner shelves. Its condition is nice and solid with authentic age appropriate character. The nails are early out of round nails so it dates turn of the last century.
