This is a rare early 20th century (Taisho Era) Japanese Kutani sleeping cat called Nemuri Neko that measures 7.5 inches long by 2.75 inches high by 4.38 inches wide. It was entirely hand painted in rich black and gold detail and depicts a cat in peaceful slumber with pink paws and pink ears wearing a persimmon colored collar featuring a gold bell on each side. It weighs 1 pounds 4 ounces before packaging and it has a small kiln vent hole. White feathers of cranes are done in morriage while the rest is hand painted. Body of piece is in amazing condition. Small chips to underside of foot rim. Unfortunately jar is missing lid. ONLY ONE ABUMI NOT A PAIR. Made of iron and decorated with silver application and inlay this piece is truly unique. Collectors will be happy to see that this piece is signed. It is signed on the top section of the top support with several characters, see photos. The front of the abumi is decorated with a beautiful bird which is decorated in silver on the iron abumi. The bottom of the abumi shows some age rust which I left as found. The inside of the abumi is decorated with abalone or metallic type flakes. The piece measures approx 12 long x 9 1/2 high x 5 1/4 wide. Overall in nice condition but I do see that the small bar for the buckle is missing.
