A contemporary of John Burt who designed and created a caster for David’s son William and his wife-to-be, must have been quite an honor! Northey has pieces at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and the famous silver collection at Yale University. In addition, he was master to his children who became well-known silversmiths-a family of makers! The delicate shellback which remains largely intact as far as wear goes, makes this wonderful spoon special, indeed. It remains in good antique condition (see exceptions in the condition description) with age appropriate wear, and bears a monogram EC to the handle. This is certainly a collector’s find! This rare and handsome piece remains in varying condition (please see condition report for specifics and exceptions), bears no monogram or erasure, and lays in wait for the collector! I have had so many inquiries about the hallmark. I took this to Skinner Auctions and they immediately identified it as James Geddy. They do not do authentications unless you pay. I have finally located their source. Many have not because it is under the name James Geddes-same person son of gunsmith James Geddes of Williamsburg Va. Please scroll through the photos until you come across the Ensko Guide to American Silversmiths- a must have reference for early coin. Decide for yourself please. Length: 6 1/4in (16cm).
