Antique Old-English-Bulldog/Early-Boxer Vienna Bronze Figure/Figurine. Extremely rare antique small bronze figure, depicting a realistic Old English Bulldog or Early Boxer with collar in a very unusual pose, playing with a stick. Well sculpted and detailed piece made of solid bronze. Unsigned or marked, but very probably made in Vienna, circa 1900. 2-½ inches (6.5 cm) long x 1-¾ inches (3 cm) height. Weight 4.76 Oz 135 gr. Was a dog breed, now extinct. It was taller and thinner than actual English Bulldog. In England, the passage of the “Cruelty to Animals Act 1835″ caused a decline of bull-baiting and dog fighting, although the activity, as well as cripple Bulldogs continued for many years. Somewhat worn with minor markings and scratches here and there. Bent up front left leg see pictures. Otherwise very fine to excellent overall condition with very nice natural bronze patina. The bronze is cast in the In d i a n traditional bronze sand casting method. The bronze still has its naturally aged, oxidized and heavily tarnished surfaces, with episodes of verdigris patina. The bronze has a variegated surface with fluctuating color, varying between a honey or amber, to deep burnt sienna, chocolate and sepia brown metallic hues, punctuated by minty green episodes of verdigris found principally in the recesses of the sgraffito incised descriptive mark-making on the surfaces of the In d i a n Goddess figure Saraswati. The bronze hasn’t been rinsed, oiled or polished with any kind of polishing agent, bronze cleaner or metal brightening paste. Description: Here we have a very unique and rare Bronze Egyptian Door knob! This is around 1890s- 1900s. This is a lot more heavy duty and heavy than a lot of doorknobs Ive had. Great subject matter and patina. I was told that this came out of the Eagles Nest in Long Island which was owned by one of the Vanderbilts. This could also be Tiffany, as that house was very finely put together with the highest of quality things, along with a lot of Tiffany. Nice condition for the age. A Great Addition to Any Collection.
