Rare, small bust “Johann Wolfgang von Goethe”. As a universal scholar and artist. Already fascinated his contemporaries during his lifetime. This is also evident in the large number of portraits, paintings, drawings and busts that were made by it. In 1807, Karl G. Weißler from Goethe’s face took a plaster mask that served him as a model for his bust. At this point, however, Goethe was 58 years. The small bust shown here was created after an earlier image because it shows it with full, youthful hair and in the frill shirt. In 1774 Goethe published his novel “The Suffers of the Young Werther” and thus became a celebrated star of the young generation of the Sturm and urge throughout Europe. During this period, the first portraits and busts of the poet were created, of which this one is a beautiful and rare example.
