Extremely Rare Original Spanish American War Military Issue Straw Hat, Brought Home as a Battlefield Souvenir by a US Sailor on the U. VERY RARE original Spanish American War black straw hat. Issued during the hot weather military combat and brought home by the identified US Sailor from the USS FRANKLIN. Scans show it all. Nicely made of a straw type of material and issued that way….. Then stained black as an added protection against the sun and weather. Has a nice 5-pointed star sewn on the center of the crown…… Made of cloth, with military gilt sequins sewn on it, as shown. Nice 3/4″ wide black hat band attached around the base of the crown as shown, with nice Navy “tail in the back. Has nice 1 1/2 wide leather head band inside the crown. Inside sweat band is dry, and several cracks, but it is all there, relatively sound, and all in place. On the top of the inside crown most of an original ownership label remains, on which is written: William P. I assume that this was the Navy sailor who wore the hat since it was brought home by this US sailor. Hat is in very good. A few occasional flaking spots only. Has one small hole in the back of the brim which appears to have been put there to hang it on a nail. Bottom measures about 12″ x 12 5/8″ overall. Inside head opening measures 6 1/4″ wide x 7″ long. Crown has a gentle slope to it, and is 3 1/8 high. On the outside the brim is about 2″ wide in the back and 2 1/2″ wide on the sides and in the front. I was also told that this could have been an enemy Spanish battlefield/combat souvenir taken by this sailor, although I don’t know. Seems more likely that it belonged to the US sailor. I have never seen one of these available for sale. VERY OLD AND VERY RARE, ESPECIALLY WITH THE OWNERSHIP ID!! And this is a nice example of such a nice, RARE MUSEUM-QUALITY HAT, for a variety of display and collection objectives!! PLEASE SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS!! Antique Westinghouse Brass Blade & Guard Desk Fan Early Rare Original Paint Nice
Antique Westinghouse Brass Blade & Guard Desk Fan Early Rare Original Paint Nice. 12 Westinghouse Stationary Desk Fan 104V 133CY circa 1905-06. Restored approximately 25 years ago. Seldom seen rare 133 Cycle. 1st version of Tank Fan right after the Pancake. Larger Vent Holes, Smooth yoke, Struts attach directly to round profile, Solid ring guard center. Early switch with no threaded hole to hold fiber plate, different base design. Early collector quality fan for the Westinghouse Collector. Very rare version in a very rare cycle, (Tesla’s original cycle design). This fan has been in my possession for over 25 years. It was restored preserving the stunning original paint, if any touch up was done it was only lightly(not over done) touched up using PPG or Glasurit automotive single stage urethane. The fan is 100% original Westinghouse. The blade and guard are both original Westinghouse as is all the brass. The original blade that came on the fan when found at a flea market was actually a cast brass hub early Tank blade that had two wings sawed off. Being an impossible blade to locate, we used a stamped brass hub blade that Westinghouse quickly adopted on the early Tanks. I have not tested it lately, but it ran when first restored. I only displayed it through the years because of the 133 cycles only allowed it to run a short while at about 1/2 speed. It was only shown to a handful of collectors and has never been shown at Fan Fair, so it has largely been incognito through the years. I displayed it at home without a cord, because I considered it a nuisance on the shelf. Please ask any questions and I will be happy to answer. Out of curiosity and some request, I checked to see if the fan would run. I was unable to make it run through the switch though the switch is complete and the coil does not appear to be burned out. I bypassed the switch and was able to get it to run directly to the head wire after a push on the blade. Please see all images for a pictorial description and ask any questions. Early Victorian Brass & Red Vauxhall Glass Insect Fly Pin Beaufitul Old Rare
This beautiful insect pin is a wonderful example of antique Vauxhall glass jewelry from the early Victorian (ca1850) era! The 3-dimensional brooch depicts a large fly, which includes deep red Vauxhall glass wings in a traditional brass setting. The pointed wings are lightly faceted along the edges, and display the reflective “mirror-like” quality that is unique to Vauxhall glass. Blue glass eyes, a lightly textured brass body, and 6 curved legs add further detail to the stylish design. Hidden on the underside of the piece is a simple bar pin with a “c-catch” closure, perfect for fastening to a favorite garment. This unusual piece is perfect for the antique collector or insect jewelry lover! Measurements: The pin measures 1 5/8″ long, 1 1/8″ wide, and 3/8 thick. Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the brass setting or to the Vauxhall glass. The bar pin remains secure and in good working condition. Early Victorian Brass & Red Vauxhall Glass Insect Fly Pin Beaufitul Old Rare. RARE Early Antique J. BLATTNER, ST. LOUIS, MO. Brass Surveyor's Vernier Compass
Here we have a RARE Early Antique J. Brass Surveyor’s Vernier Compass. Jacob Blattner was born in Berne, Switzerland. Was thoroughly trained in the art of manufacturing precision instruments. In 1839, Jacob and his wife, along with his foreman and his foremans family immigrated to the United States. Blattner opened a shop at 24 Chestnut. 1840 as a mathematical instrument maker. His shop manufactured all types of mathematical, scientific and optical instruments. Offered a large range of surveyors compasses. His sole-proprietorship lasted until his retirement in 1871. The successor to Jacob Blattners operation of 30 years was the company, Blattner & Adam. The principals were Henry Blattner, Jacob’s son, and Frank Adam, Jacob’s son-in-law. This surveyors vernier compass has a silvered brass compass dial that is inscribed: J. The dial face is divided in eight sections with directional designations and a very nice large. The compass has an elevated dial edge with 360 degree graduation around perimeter. There is a finely sculpted steel needle. The bottom mounted needle lift/lock is missing its thumbscrew. There is a vernier adjustment knob which operates gears to revolve the compass, and a locking knob below the compass case. There is a tiny bit of damage on the edge of the vernier plate with an edge folding up. This doesn’t affect the function. See pics The top of the main frame is also outfitted with two upright sighting vanes. The vanes have slit, peep hole sights and can be removed for ease of transport. The bottom of the compass has a tripod attachment collar. Instrument is 16-1/2″ Long with 7-1/2″ tall vanes and a 6-1/4 diameter compass. This instrument has a very nice aged patina finish!! This is decent example of one of the St. Louis surveyor, scientific instrument makers that deserves a place in your collection. Please remember to leave Feedback. I will gladly reciprocate. Rare Early 1900 Large Brass Rice Warmer Container BangJaYuGi Superb Sound
Rare Early 1900 Large Brass Rice Warmer Container BangJaYuGi. This is one of the oldest Korean brassware we have seen over the years. This is heavy and sounds wonderful when you bang on it. Long before electric rice cooker was around this large container was used during 19th century and early 1900 to keep the rice warm. Mom and grandma would put rice in to this container after. Rice is made and put this container under the blanket to keep it warm until dinner time. The Koreans used ondol system so entire floor of the house was warm or hot. Korean brassware have been big part of daily life since Goryo dynasty to 1945 or just before the Korean war. These brassware were probably made around first quarter of 20th century. Some of these items were hand made hence the different shapes and some with visible hand hammering mark. Early on brassware was reserved for the upper class and the nobles but during it’s peak (19th century) they became available to most Koreans.
