Rare & Handsome Antique Art Deco Wardle Art Pottery Hexangonal Planter, 1924
Posted by admin On May 22, 2025

Rare & Handsome Antique Art Deco Wardle Art Pottery Hexangonal Planter, 1924. This stylish plater came from the kilns of Wardle, a Staffordshire pottery works founded by William Wardle in the mid-nineteenth century. The business grew over the next 25 years, introducing new techniques and expanding into export. The company was taken over by J A Robinson & Sons Ltd in 1908 and renamed Wardle Art Pottery. It later amalgamated with Cauldon Potteries but finally ceased trading in 1935. The art pottery produced by Wardle has now become highly sort after by collectors. This handsome Art Deco planter is hexagonal in shape and raised on small moulded feet at each corner. Each of the six sides a frame device in shallow relief, the rim has a subtle flare reaching outwards. It features a vibrant majolica drip glaze to the outside using rich tones of rose, green, cobalt and golden caramel which is used to stunning effect creating a variegated colour palette. The interior features the lovely golden caramel glaze. The planter is fully marked on the glaze washed base. The planter measures approx. 11.3cms tall by 20.5cm the widest point. The Registered Design number 704297 dates the planter to 1924. In good used antique condition with some crazing to the glaze and there are three hairline cracks visible on the interior wall, one is almost invisible outside and the other two are not so may be only superficial in the glaze only. A stunning and usable collectable piece of art pottery. Please see pictures for more details. Recycled packaging is used as much as possible. I will pack and weigh the items together and get the best possible price that I can, sometimes weight or value might dictate that I send multiple parcels to get a better value for you.

Rare Early English 17th Century Post Medieval Memento Mori Ring. Circa 1620
Posted by admin On May 22, 2025

RARE 17TH CENTURY MEMENTO MORI RING. For sale is an extremely rare early English 17th Century Memento Mori silver and gold gilt ring. This is a known and extremely rare example of a 17th Memento Mori Ring, and can be accurately dated to the early 1600s. The ring still bears some small traces of its gilding on solid silver. What I love about this piece is how wonderfully illustrated the skull is, and so typical of the period, unlike anything we see today. The inscription reads (BEHOLD THE ENDE) a reminder that we all must die one day. A very rare ring, and a unique piece of history. The ring is from my own private collection, and is a ring that would look great in any museum or private collection. This ring is certainly one of the rarest of it type! And a real grail piece in any collection! Ring size measures (UK P) (US 8.5) and weighs 5.6 grams. Ring will also come with nice antique box as shown.

Japanese 17th Century EARLY & RARE Kraak Charger C1680 Holzapfel Collection
Posted by admin On May 20, 2025

Magnificent Large 17th Century Japanese “Kraak” Charger which is almost 12 in diameter. This is a very early example of Japanese Porcelain Kraak wares dating between 1670 and 1690. The dish is heavily potted typical of the dishes made at this time in Arita. Densely decorated with fruit and flowers. This dish was bought from the Famous Holzapfel Ceramic Collection in 2005 by a private Swiss collector. Wonderful example and a rare find. In the late 17th Century the demand for Chinese dishes in Europe was huge and with the fall of the Ming Dynasty tin 1644 there was a shortage of supply to Europe. The Dutch turned to Japan to fill this need and so the Japanese Kilns started to produce copies of the Chinese dishes to fill the demand. The Japanese kilns however still could not produce sufficient quantities demanded of these wares as their production was on a much smaller scale than the Chinese and therefore at the time the Japanese Kraak wares were very expensive and exclusive. An incredible and decorative charger of large dish (Charger) in very good condition. Dimensions: Diameter 30cm (12 inches). Item will be extremely well packed.
