A very fine and rare unusually large early 19. Century gilt brass Japanese bracket / table clock or Makura Dokei in need of restoration. The plated lantern type spring driven movement with balance wheel and verge escapement, the balance with silk suspension. Originally with striking and datework. Gilt brass case/frame beautifully engraved with foliate sprays and devices. Beautifully turned frame pillars. The going train is complete. A very fine and rare clock but in need of careful restoration. Please see images below. In unrestored condition and as seen. The whole clock retains its original gilding in exceptionally good condition. The movement is in very good condition but missing the striking train, he date wheels and the adjustable hour markers for the dial. The bow of the steel hand has broken off and is missing. The bell is original and rings perfectly. Overall height of clock to top of bell finial 13 cm (5 1/8). Top and bottom plates 11.7 cm x 6.4 cm 4 5. /8 x 2 1/2. Height frame excluding finials 8.8 cm (3 3/8). Packed weight 1.8 kg. Size 29 x 28 x 19 cm.
