RARE SUBSTANTIAL PREHISTORIC INDUS VALLEY EARLY HARAPPAN TERRACOTTA ZEBU BULL FIGURINE. Weight – 78.6 grams. Size – 9 cm. Polychrome Indus Valley terracotta statuette of a Zebu bull. The animal is depicted in a naturalistic manner, with eyes, large hump and tall antlers. The anatomical features are emphasized by stripes of black pigmentation. The Indus Valley Civilisation extended from what today is north east Afghanistan to Pakistan and north west India. It was one of three early and widespread cradles of civilisation along with Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. At its peak, the Indus Valley Civilisation, which included such sites as Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro, may have had a population of over five million, who developed new techniques in pottery, seal carving, and metallurgy. The Indus Valley statuettes are known to be quite detailed and realistically shaped. On top of anatomically depicted anthropomorphic statuettes, bulls and elephants were among the most represented both as figurines and pottery’s decorations. Harappan people produced a large number of terracotta figurines, which were handmade. Terracottas were made up of fire baked earthen clay which came to be called as Terracotta Figurines. They were either used as toys or objects of worship. Harappa is an archaeological site in Punjab, Pakistan, about 24 km (15 mi) west of Sahiwal. The site takes its name from a modern village located near the former course of the Ravi River which now runs 8 km (5.0 mi) to the north. The current village of Harappa is less than 1 km (0.62 mi) from the ancient site. Although modern Harappa has a legacy railway station from the British Raj period, it is a small crossroads town of 15,000 people today. Previously in a large British collection of an expert based in central London, formed prior to 2000. This item is in the category “Antiques\Other Antiques”. If it was ever produced or just a craft piece. I believe this classic great looking piece is somewhat early as it has some age cracks in the finish across the nose. The density of the cracks is very low as they have some real distance between them, they are not as tightly nit some other items I have seen on other pieces that have real age. The item is porcelain I believe…. However the back unfinished edge looks similar to dark red brown like terracotta but I have no idea if it is… The bottom tooth has been repaired and the the finish of the repaired tooth is not matching the others (it is noticeble which is why the adjusted price). This is fine piece with real presence as you can see from the pictures and is ready to hang on a wall. This item will really set off the space with that little something that can really set the tone for the area. 8.5 from top of hair to bottom of chin. Roughly 8 at its width/widest point. 5 1/2 deep from the wall to the tip of the nose. 8″X6.5″ opening on the back. You will be purchasing the exact item that can be seen in the pictures and described in the title. Thanks for looking at my items good luck, Rob and Kathy. SCARCE EARLY to MID 20TH CENTURY AME RI CAN ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE HAND CARVED CHESTNUT WOODEN ROPE BED TIGHTENER, with 2-PIECE CONSTRUCTION, FEATURING DOWELED. HANDLED & SPOKED, TOOTHED TURNIN G. END & ROPE CLASP. [2-piece construction with doweled handle removable from main wooden shaft]. Early to mid 19th century Ame ri can antique New England hand carved chestnut wood bet tighteners. 17 1/2″ Height x 13 1/2″ Width (handle). Body: 2″ Width x 2 1/4″ Depth. Bottom spoked end: 3″ Height x 3/4″ gap Width. Offered for your review and consideration is this early to mid 19th century Ame ri can antique primitive hand carved chestnut rope bed tightener or bed screw turn. It was recently discovered here in southern New Hampshire during an estate clean-out of an early residence with an attached barn and carriage sheds. It is a true New England primitive hand tool, completely fashioned by hand and made from local chestnut wood, once prevalent in the northeast and found all over New England before it suffered blight. The rope bed turn screw is comprised of two parts, the carved chestnut, sturdy doweled handle which inserts into the main, spoked end chestnut shaft. The’T’ shaped design would allow the user to insert the key onto the looped rope in the rope bed’s side board and turn it, tightening it to give better support to the goose feather down or straw filled linen mattresses of that era. The beds would have carved wood nuts to hold them into the newly tightened position. Good to Very Good overall antique condition. This item is in the category “Antiques\Primitives”. The seller is “modsanctuary” and is located in this country: US. This item can be shipped worldwide.
