Here we have an early cat bank that is simply exceptional and is highly collectable among cat and bank collectors. The potter molded the cat in a realistic seated pose looking forward with its tail wrapped around its hind feet. This is nicely molded with the light Rockingham glaze accenting the fine details in the cat. The bank was molded in three pieces, front, back and base and were joined before firing. You can see the seam along the side and back of the cat with a sliver of clay missing. Measuring 3 ¾ high, the bank is in near mint condition with wear along the seam where the halves were joined and no other damage or repairs. On the underside, you can see where extra clay stuck to the bottom during firing in the kiln. Early cat banks are highly collectable and would be prized in any collection.
Here we have an attractive rare pair of reclining lions not shown in any of the books on collecting yellow ware. This pair of recumbent lions on rectangular bases are nicely molded and have a realistic appeal. One of the lions is mostly clear glazed yellow ware, the other lion has light applications of Rockingham glaze as accents. This is unique form was produced by only a single potter. These measure 6″ in length by 3″ in height the lions are thickly potted on hollow bases. The lions are in excellent condition with only minor wear on the base that don’t detract or take away from these magnificent animals. Any serious collector would be proud to add these to their collection.
Dating to around 1840, this is a finely detailed early corn mold. The mold is very crisply formed and highly decorative. There were several different varieties of corn molds produced, and this is the most decorative and desirable. This mold is large, measuring 7″ long by 6 ¼” wide and 3 ¾ in height. This has had a long life and shows it with wear around the rim and foot. Lisa McAllister includes this mold in her book “Collector’s Guide to Yellow Ware Book 1″ on page 92.

The cradle was molded in two pieces and the halves pressed together, then the rockers added prior to firing. The outside of the cradle is attractively formed with Rockingham glaze decorating the top and sides. Measuring 4 ½” long by 3 ¼” in height this cradle is nicely molded and decorated. When found, these cradles usually have damage from having been played with by children. This is in near mint condition with only minor glaze loss on the top of the rockers with no other damage or repairs. Very few of these cradles have survived in any condition and are highly collectable.
