There are inserts in the box as seen in the photo. The box is in good condition without any visible problems. Perhaps the box is intended for liquor bottles or perhaps for Jewish Torah.. Measures 12″ length, 8″width, and 14 height. The box is heavy. See pics for details. Still a nice piece considering its age! Thanks for looking and please ask if you have any questions.

This rare find is very interesting.. It measures just 17 long and is very old. The heavily patinated wooden ball is attached to the iron linked chain. The leather shackle works like a belt. Not the best security system. But clearly this was used. A lot. The leather shows honest wear and age. I’m thinking this is 150 years old. I believe the photographs give an accurate read.

Rare Antique Eton Fives Wooden Rackets Early School Sports Pair Display/Study
Rare pair of early Eton Fives wooden rackets, traditionally used in the historic school sport associated with Eton College. These examples likely date from the early-mid 20th century and still retain their original natural gut stringing. Eton Fives equipment from this era is highly uncommon, as the sport was played at only a handful of English public schools and later evolved into a handball-style game without rackets. Early rackets like these were produced in very small numbers, making surviving examples sought after for collectors of school memorabilia and antique sporting equipment. Both rackets show age-related wear, flaking paint around the throat, and broken/deteriorated gut strings (see photos). Ideal as decorative pieces, museum-style display, or study items for those interested in English school sports history. See photos for measurements.

Antique Early American wooden sculpture of a horse. Wood is very light from age, shows trace of colored paint. Broken legs and tail. Would have to be restored. I do not have the missing parts. The horse measured from the tip of the nose to the end of the broken tail is about 12″ and from the top of the head to the end of the broken leg is about 7.5″.

RARE Antique Russian Wooden Box Sergiev Posad Early 20th Century Russian Style
Antique Russian Wooden Box – Sergiev Posad – Early 20th Century – 11 x 10 x 5.5 cm – Hand-Burned & Painted Folk Art – Bilibin-Style Bogatyr – Russian Revival Style. This is a striking antique Russian wooden box from Sergiev Posad, crafted in the early 20th century. The lid features a vivid hand-burned and hand-painted scene depicting a bogatyr (Russian epic knight) on horseback, executed in the style of illustrations by the famous artist Ivan Bilibin. The imagery and decorative approach reflect the Russian Revival style (russkiy stil’), an important artistic movement celebrating medieval Russian heritage and folk traditions. Made from linden wood (a common choice for Russian folk crafts), the box showcases the classic Sergiev Posad technique of pyrography (wood burning) combined with hand-applied paints, resulting in a textured and visually dynamic surface. The hinged lid opens smoothly to reveal the original unfinished wooden interior, perfect for storing jewelry, keepsakes, or small personal treasures. Its warm patina and age-related wear enhance its authenticity and charm. Origin: Sergiev Posad, Russia. Date: Early 20th century. Material: Linden wood, pyrography, paint. Dimensions: 11 cm x 10 cm x 5.5 cm (4.3 x 3.9 x 2.2 inches). Condition: Good antique condition with visible surface wear and paint fading consistent with age. This piece is a fine example of Russian folk art from one of the country’s most renowned craft centers and, with its Bilibin-inspired bogatyr imagery in the Russian Revival style, it holds special appeal for collectors of Slavic decorative arts and illustration-inspired antiques. Of the generation whereby they were marketing these as a cheaper/easier means to learning how to surf aka “sidewalk surfing”; Made all the clearer by the fact that this model is literally “Surfer” in a beautiful, cursive, red font. A piece of americana and a key moment in time for the evolution of the american skateboard! Imagine riding down a steep california hill riding these METAL wheels! 21″ L x 5.25″ W. Overall nice condition, with a very bright, vibrant, cursive red logo. Please note the faint scuff to the original shellac just above the “UR” in surfer. This skateboard was made in Jacksonville Illinois. However, before skateboards there were scooters, sometimes known as kick scooters and push scooters. Varied forms of scooters have been traced back to the early 1900s, most of them made from wood, metal, or a combination of the two. Scooters had anywhere from two to four wheels. Some of the wheels were metal and others were similar to the wheels on pedal cars. In the 1940s and 1950s, crate scooters made popular sidewalk vehicles. Most crate scooters were handmade. They were relatively inexpensive and simple for kids to construct by using a milk crate or wooden fruit box and metal roller skate wheels attached to a wooden 2 x 4. Eventually kids started removing the boxes and handlebars and just started riding the board with wheels, reminiscent of the famous skateboard scene in the 1985 film Back to the Future. By the early 1960s, skateboarding started luring participants from the surfer scene. In 1962 a southern California surf shop, Val Surf, began making its own brand of skateboards and struck a deal with Chicago Roller Skate Company for the wheels. The skateboards began to attract everyday surfers who could use the boards when they weren’t in the water, and thus the term “sidewalk surfer” was coined. Additionally, skateboarding gained popularity when Larry Stevenson, publisher of Surf Guide, promoted it in his monthly magazine. In 1963, Stevenson made the first professional skateboards using the Makaha brand and organized the first known skateboarding contest. That same year saw an evolution in skateboard design with the use of clay (also known as composite) wheels that replaced treacherous metal ones. Moving ahead, in 1964 surf and sailing entrepreneur Hobart “Hobie” Alter joined forces with Vita-Pakt company to make a line of Hobie skateboards; the Hobie line also sponsored several contests and professional skaters. Later that summer, the musical group Jan and Dean performed “Sidewalk Surfin” on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand, an event which helped further popularize skateboarding with mainstream society. In 1965, the skateboarding sport peaked as manufacturers tried to keep up with the demand, cranking out an estimated 50 million skateboards between 1963 and 1965. In May, the world’s first skatepark, Surf City in Tucson, Arizona opened to the public..
