Late Georgian/Early Antiq wooden compass in box. Interesting piece of navigational history. The printed Paper rose that Is inside the Compass is in good condition for its age. The Compass needle works well, the Compass and has N on one end & S on the other side. The to the centre there is also a brass stay which is lifted by pressing a pin on the inside this hold the compass points in place for transit. There is a hinge missing to the box. 5cm x 5cm x 1.7cm. Condition: good condition for its age. The compass would benefit from full restoration. Please see the photos which form part of the description. Very Rare 7.75 1840s Pink Tint China Doll On Articulated Wooden Body Early Bun

Amazing example of an early 1840s china doll on wooden body. She measures about 7.75 tall. You will get the clothes that she came in, which I carefully removed with a seam ripper. They were not in good condition, so I did not feel badly about taking them off to inspect her body. Her clothing appears a little later than she is from, probably from the late 19 century. I have not seen any damage to her China. On the back of her shoulderplate near the bottom, it appears that part of it is not completely glazed and is a little rougher. I dont think this is damage, but in original flaw. This is the first of this kind of doll Ive had with a China head, and her arms at the top where they meet the shoulder feel a little loose. Perhaps this is the way they were made. It does appear like there is part of the wood missing from her left buttock area, although this is not super noticeable. Rare Early 20th Century Oxford University Metal Bound Wooden Expedition Crate. The crate was originally used by Oxford University Exploration Club, mountaineering Expedition To The Andes Of Peru, and dates to around 1905 – 1910. Incredibly it survived and it still in usable condition. The crate was produced by Venesta Boxes and Barrels of a London. Venesta was founded in 1898 and the first company to import plywood. The company gained special notoriety after they supplied the crates for two historic Artic expeditions. The first was Ernest Shackletons Nimrod expedition, and second Captain Robert Falcon Scotts ill fated Terra Nova expedition. The history of this crate is very significant and its ties to both Oxford University and the company Venesta make a must for any collector. With two closing latches to both sides, and metal bound for durability. Stamped with the expedition information to the top. Stamped with the makers name to two sides.
