Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this absolutely sublime mid-18. Century circa 1760 solid Yew & Oak Windsor stick back armchair. If you are looking at this listing then the chances are you know what this chair is, how rare the timber is and how collectable. It is! I have never seen another this early with this colour, it truly is a work of art. The lines and form are sublime, the seat exceptionally comfortable, I can see why this has survived so long, anything this aesthetically appealing that’s extremely comfortable to live with would be well looked after. We have cleaned waxed and polished it from top to bottom, it looks to be all original timber without breakages. Height:- 101.5cm. Seat height:- 39.5cm. What an impressive Windsor chair with outstanding color! This square-back/rod back Windsor with its flared shield seat and its overall unrivaled features is listed as being rarely documented and with few examples found. A similar chair is pictured in Charles Santores, The Windsor Style in America Volumes I and II on page 247 of its New Discoveries section. Here the author reports, The number of never-before-published Windsor finds of exceptional quality and importance has compelled me to prepare this entire chapter on new discoveries. This chair is in good condition with no notable defects other than the expected scratches and nicks and overall wear. One stretcher pictured appears could benefit from being pushed deeper into the leg, but I havent attempted to do that.
