Meissen Magpie Bird on Stump Porcelain Large Art Deco. This is a handsome Meissen bird s perched on elaborate detailed grey tree trunk base with pastel green foliage. The Magpie is very lifelike, and finely modeled in a handsome pose, with a long raised erect tail. The bird has beautiful black and white plumage with a black face and coal black eyes, open beak with coral red tongue. On the undersides is the Meissen mark. The composition of the piece is exquisitely laid out in a natural setting. The coloration and glaze accentuates the beayty of the Magpie. Look carefully at photographs, for the molding on the wings, tail, feet and base branch… Details in the unique way that is the hallmark of Meissen porcelain figurines. It is finished in a shiny glaze and painted in vivid hues. The massive bird stands approximately 21 inches tall from base to top of tail on base of about 4 1/2” diameter. In very good condition with no damage that I have noticed. Meissen- Modelled originally by JJ Kaendler – The bird is marked underneath the base with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark and incised line below, and additional incised model mark 0f No. 62-Most probably very late 19th Century or early 20th century.
