RARE EARLY ROBERT MOUSEMAN THOMPSON 3.8cm NAPKIN RING 1950s. A rare, early Robert’Mouseman’ Thompson napkin ring dating to the 1950s. These little napkin rings are few and far between. They measure just 3.8 cm, so much smaller than the later napkin rings that got bigger and bigger as the decades went on, eventually measuring 5 cm. I’ve taken a picture of this early napkin ring with a later example so the size can be compared, the vintage example is not included in the sale. Regarding condition, it has a split (see pictures) with a dark line running over it. Other than that, the condition is excellent. The mouse is particularly well carved with no damage, the colour is beautiful, and it has wonderful patina. Finding any early, rare Mouseman piece under 200 pounds is practically impossible, so it’s great to be able to bring something like this to the market which has age and rarity. It is also still very useable today.
RARE EARLY ROBERT MOUSEMAN THOMPSON TEA / DRINKS TRAY WITH 2 SIGNATURE MICE – 1940s. A superb hand carved Robert’Mouseman’ Thompson tea tray, dating to the 1940s. These rectangular shaped trays are very highly sought after by collectors as they are quite rare to the market, normally they are kidney shaped. It has 2 well carved early signature mice either end of the tray. It is a beautiful dark oak colour with wonderful patina. It has also been hand adzed to the top as well as all around the rim. It is in very good condition with just some minor wear to the rim (please see pictures) and some water staining to the top and bottom. Other than that, it just has wear consistent with the age of the piece, which is to be expected as it is now approximately 80 years old. A lot of these early trays are heavily stained and warped due to drinks spillages. This one is in nice condition, a good example. It measures 55.5 cm (including mice handles) x 31.2 cm. This beautiful hookah base is a rare find for any collector of Islamic antiques. The base has an Armenian red cross signature and likely dates back to the early 1900. It stands at 20cm tall and appears in good condition. EARLY ROBERT MOUSEMAN THOMPSON OAK ASHTRAY, HAND CARVED WITH SIGNATURE MOUSE – 1940s. A really superb Robert Mouseman Thompson ashtray with a particularly well carved signature mouse that has a fabulous face, whiskers, and a lovely high back end and carved tail. It is a wondeerful dark honey colour with a nice grain pattern running through the oak. It is in excellent condition with minimal signs of wear consistent with age, which is understandable as it is approximately 80 years old, so has amazing patina that you just can’t get with the later ashtrays.
