Gothic style lettering on a dark sterling silver Christmas tree pin known as the Antique Alphabet Sampler arbor. The brooch features a stack of letter from A to Z. A fraction under 2-1/2. Accompanied by a scarce MFA (Museum of Fine Arts) Christmas tree pin with maybe a Native American at center? Since out of Boston, maybe it celebrates the bounty of the first Thanksgiving near Plymouth. Bonus is a Christmas tree pin made of an antique quilt. A thread spool is its base. Not sure how many they produced, just said it was made of an antique quilt. Buttons are its ornaments and the top features tied twine. Rare 18th/ Early 19th Miniature Sz School Girl Sampler w Bird, Flowers & Alphabet
Rare small size school girl sampler. Rare to be this small and very narrow form. Sampler itself measures just 3 1/4 inches across by 6 3/4 inches tall. Has multi colored cross stitching of the alphabet, with small motifs down below of what looks to be a bird, flowers and other things. Nice primary colors of blue, red, green, and yellow. One light color looks to be faded. It is set in a bit of a little later frame. The frame measures 7 1/8 inches across by 11 1/8 inches tall. Looks to be in great condition, and stitched on homespun linen. On the backside is handwritten Early Sampler, not a family piece. I have not taken it out of the frame so as not to disturb it. My opinion is to date it late 18th to early- mid 19th century. Super sweet and rare size. Rare Early 19th Century Woolwork Sampler of a Seated Cat Dated 1831
Images of cats seem to be rarer than those of dogs. This is especially true in early needlework. In this large piece of woolwork, the stitcher created a picture of her striped cat sitting on a red, bun-footed footstool. The green ground around the cat harmonizes well with the elaborate rope-like border stitched in shades of rust, brown, cream and gray. There are two large motifs in leaf shape in the right and left corners of the composition. The cat itself is stitched in finer wool yarn than the background and the border. Part of its face and chest were stitched in a silky-finished floss. The stitcher used a heavy silk floss for her name and date: H. This places this fabulous piece of needlework in the era prior to those that became popular after Victoria took the British throne. It is housed in its original wood and gesso painted frame with a gilded slip and old, bubbled glass. The condition of the woolwork is excellent. There are no holes or staining. The color retention is phenomenal given the age of this embroidery. This must have been a cherished family piece that was kept in a room with few windows that kept the wool from fading. It appears to have been backed with a board at some time that helped keep the needlework free of dust and insects. The attractive frame is in excellent condition as well. I have had it professionally restored to bring it back to its former glory. This is an extraordinary and striking piece of early needlework, and as such, deserves a special place in ones collection. It measures 21-1/2 inches wide and 20-1/2 inches high, including the frame. Personal and cashiers checks also accepted. Expertise in 18th and 19th Century Needlework, British Paintings, and 19th Century Decorative Arts with over 35 Years Experience. These pictures include a tree, animal-like figures and various designs. In the center is a quote about living life. The quote is somewhat hard to read due to flawed stitches in the making of the sampler. Roughly reads Remember thy creatou in the days of thy youth while the evil days come nor the years draw nigh when thour halt ray have no pleasure in them. ” Below the quote reads “Honour to your parents give us long as you on Earth do live. Mary Cleaveland made the sample in the 11 year. The sampler is framed in a thick wooden frame. This rare sampler would make a great addition to any sewing or embroidery collection!
