Rare SMOKING ALLIGATOR Tobacco Jar Antique Majolica Pottery Humidor Early 20thC

Tobacco Jar Antique Majolica Pottery Humidor Early 20. This is a rare antique Austrian Majolica Tobacco Jar known as the SMOKING ALLIGATOR. This two-piece tobacco jar, or humidor, is modeled in deep relief. And glaze are very well done. The subject is a well-attired Alligator Smoking a Pipe and wearing large hooded cape. The head forms the top. The lid (head) has a recessed area to put a damp sponge and is nicely fitted on the matching base. On both the top and the base, the inside is glazed, and the rim foot is unglazed; the underside base is glazed. The tobacco jar is decorated with stylized accents, and colors including a background decorated with green, yellow, pink, and brown. On the glazed center of the underside base, 4873 and 37 are impressed marks; the underside rimfoot is unglazed. This is fine antique Austrian majolica, earthenware that has an opaque tin glaze, made in Austria. The estimated date is 1900, early 20th Century. This Smoking Alligator Tobacco Jar is in good condition- noting the underside of the top has three rim chips, the largest is 0.5 in. X 0.2 in. The top has a shallow rim chip on the inside of the top rim 0.7 in. X 0.4 x 0.2 in. And two lines on the back. Otherwise, condition status includes minimal normal wear and rubbing, glaze losses, firing flaws, crazing and fretting. Overall, this work is sound, having no other chips, cracks, or major defects, and having had no apparent repairs or restorations. Please see all photos which are a part of this description. Roseville EARLY CARNELIAN Antique Table Lamp Arts & Crafts c1915 Rare Pottery

Handsome and rare table lamp which I believe is a piece of the hard to find early Roseville arts & crafts pottery, c. Matte pottery in a hard to describe color which looks like a mixture of green, blue and brown. The electric socket is obviously quite new but the cord is very old and the metal fitting at the mouth has a nice dull copper/brass look and has age. The lamp is in working condition and the pottery has no issues except for a few whitish areas which may be light scratches. The socket looks a bit crooked. SIZE: Pottery part measures 8 (20cm) which is correct for form 45 in the Roseville Early Carnelian range. Overall height is 11.5 (29cm). MARKS: I think I can see a “5” and possibly a “4” (see last photo) but these early pieces were often not marked. Other countries please enquire for a quote. Please take a look at my other Auctions! A rare early piece by Mashiko after Shoji Hamada. The plate weighs 2.5pounds and measures 11 inches in diameter and 2 inches in height. Along with Soetsu Yanagi, was one of the founding members of Mingei a Japanese folk art movement, which promoted the philosophy of the peoples craft (minsh-teki-na kgei) in postindustrial Japan. In 1924, he settled in Mashiko, a small town in the east of Japan under the Yamizo Mountains, establishing it as a cultural centre for Japanese pottery and Mingei. Rare antique early 20th century Dedham Pottery rabbit breakfast plate. It has a continuous pattern of clockwise rabbits in a row along the border. This company began in 1896 in Dedham, MA by Hugh C. It is stamped and has an impressed rabbit on the back. All over even crackle and a great deep color. Measures 8 5/8 diameter. This plate is in very good condition. A RARE EARLY TROIKA POTTERY RECTANGULAR DISH WITH MATT AND GLOSSY GLAZED ABSTRACT DESIGN IN DARK BLUE AND GREEN. MADE IN ST IVES, CORNWALL c. MAKERS MARK = Painted to base. DIMENSIONS = 30cm x 19.8cm (11 3/4in x 7 3/4in). CONDITION = VERY GOOD some discolouration to underside with a few very faint patches visible under the white glaze inside.
