Vintage 5-string banjo with fully engraved metal body. Stamped RELIANCE on the headstock and S. ROSE & CO, BOMBAY on the heel. Believed to be pre-WWI, possibly very late Victorian or Edwardian. Made in the UK as a colonial-era export for the Indian market. Wooden neck, slotted headstock, metal back and sides with floral engraving. John Grey trade connection likely, exact maker unknown. Wear and patina consistent with age. Exported to India by S. Rose & Co during the British Raj. Rare to find in the UK with both maker and export marks.
1714 Holy Bible printed in London by John Baskett. Very early complete Bible printed by John Baskett. Any John Baskett printing prior to 1715 is difficult to find. Beautiful original leather binding with gold gilt design on covers and spine. Very worn, but covers are holding well. Someone later added the blanks and marbled pastedowns in an attempt to match the originals. The title page is partially stuck to the new endpaper, not allowing you to open it all the way (see pictures). Some damage to the edges and bottoms of first pages (see pictures). Some pages protruding slightly with rough edges. This copy had gauffering on edges, but it’s a bit hard to see now. Mostly clean of markings and such. Some owner inscriptions at rear. Measures just under 7″ x 4.25″ and a little over 2 thick. The majority of books I list are 150+ years old. I do my best to describe imperfections and flaws in the item description, but please review pictures for the best idea of the condition. Check out my other book and Bible listings! The Antique John Doyle (HB) lithograph print of’The Coquet’ is a limited edition political caricature from around 1830. Produced in the United Kingdom, this medium-sized high format print captures the essence of politics in the early 19th century. The print, framed and mounted, showcases the intricate lithography technique used by John Doyle, making it a valuable addition to any art collection focusing on political themes from this period.
1713 New Testament printed in London by John Baskett. Very rare early printing by John Baskett not mentioned in the Herbert Catalog! The first John Baskett printing was a New Testament in 1712. I’ve seen a copy of that printing bound into a complete Bible before, but this is the first time I’ve seen a standalone 1713 New Testament. Measures about 7.25″ x 4.75″ and a little less than 1 thick. Binding has a bit of a lean to it, spine a little worn with top and bottom chipped, but solid and attractive! This is one of those rare printings that very rarely come up for sale, much less in this good of condition! This is definitely a necessary addition to any Baskett Bible collection! Please review pictures for a better idea of the condition. Check out my other book and Bible listings! I may have more like this one that you would be interested in!
