Rare Antique Early Victorian Mercury Cameo Roman Medallion Hand Mirror Pewter

From my parent’s estate. They collected antiques including unusual pieces and silver. This particular piece is an early Victorian Hand Mirror 4 1/2″ long and 1 7/8″ wide. I do not know what kind of metal it is – looks like pewter to me but it is not indicated in their notes. A cameo medallion bust of the Roman god Mercury (god of commerce and financial gain, also Roman messenger god) is on the back side of the mirror with ornate and delicate handle. You can see that the mirror has a flaw in it (streaks and a mark inside the glass – see photos) but you can still see your face in it. Also see bottom of the handle. I don’t have much more information other than what was left in their notes. It really is a nice piece – 44.6g of metal and mirror, and a charming conversation piece. I can imagine a Victorian lady having this in her purse to check on her appearance at a ball or spy on someone behind her….. The detail in the cameo is quite good. I have done nothing to clean it. This piece is very nice and should be loved and displayed.

Up for sale is a Rare Vintage Antique pair of Early Victorian Silver Hand Craved Lava Putti Cufflinks. They measure approx: 1″ x 7/8″ and are 3-dimensional. Very good antique condition with the note that one link has a carving flaw, the nose of one Putti. It was chipped in carving for the nostril is complete but just flattened. Beautiful near matched pair of late Georgian/ early Victorian Minton porcelain encrusted “Florist” vases, dating to around 1830. Highly decorative and richly detailed, each vase features hand-applied floral encrustation, trellis-moulded necks, rococo scroll bases, and fine hand-painted panels-one with flowers, the other with exotic birds. These labour-intensive pieces represent some of Minton’s finest early 19th-century work. The applied flowers, gilding, and painting all show excellent skill and craftsmanship. A very attractive surviving pair. Maker: Minton, possibly Coalbrookdale. Date: c. As is typical for encrusted Minton. Expected small chips/losses to applied flowers. No obvious cracks or structural repairs. Hand-painted panels remain bright and detailed. Gilding in good order. One vase has slightly more flower losses than the other Overall an attractive and rare near pair.
