ANTIQUE RARE MILITARY BELT BUCKLE WITH LION GILT BRASS BUCKLE – EARLY MILITARY. Very interesting and scarce antique belt buckle – the belt seems to be standard British army belt that was first used in the 19th century, bullion thread onto red leather with compartments to the inside. The buckle itself is frustratingly difficult to pin down to a country or regiment, the metal has been gilt and not machined like the ww2 era buckles which leads me to suspect it’s earlier. Adorned with acorns by belt loops – reminds me of the German buckles but of course no lions although the ottoman lion with German acorns may represent the ww1 alliance? Perhaps an ottoman regiment? For your review and consideration is this very rare and absolutely fantastic, recently discovered early 19th century Ame ri can folk art New England primitive sewn leather fire bucket, featuring hand painted, decorated front sidewall, with a hand painted #2 numeric font in gold gilt enamel paint. The fire bucket also feats a nearly intact leather wrapped carrying handle, with both of its original brass ring side clasps, with one leather hoop having broken away and previously snapped long ago. The dry, matte painted surfaces featuring 100%, absolutely original, first generation enamel paint. The #2 numeric font is wonderfully realized in gold gilt enamel paint and shadowed with both red and green hand painted line. The #2’s surrounded by a vertical oval gold gilt, green and red enveloping circle. The upper and lower margins of the leather fire bucket also have tri-color, hand painted bands, which circumnavigate the vessel’s body. With only minimal to moderate paint loss, this very rare and now exceedingly difficult to find late 18th to early 19th century Ame ri can fire bucket’s 100% untouched. Rare find from estate sale! This is a beautiful porcelain teacup and saucer made by Flight, Barr & Barr between 1813 and 1840 – but most probably circa 1815, which was the Regency era. Peach ground gold gilt leaf pattern. This peach ground color is rare as it was very difficult to produce; if the kiln temperature was only slightly too high or too low, the color would come out an ugly brown and the items would have to be thrown away. Given that kilns were fired on coal fires, you can imagine how hard it was to achieve this beautiful color and it would only have been done for the most exclusive sets. The pinched handle is typical for Flight and Barr. Meaning free from cracks chips repairs or crazing. No signs of use for example (utensil marks, scuffs, stains, gold loss or pattern wear). Which leads me to believe this set was for display only as part of a collection. Referenced in Geoffrey A. The backplates are pressed brass with some of the original gilt wash finish remaining. The rings are tubular/hollow brass. Size; backplates measure 66 mm diameter, 2.6 inches. A very rare pair of violet tinted three part prismatic glass Holophane lanterns, housed within their original elaborate gilt copper cages. The gilt copper (over brass) has a wonderful patina, with the finish over time almost turning into a rose gold tone in areas. All glass sections stamped with the Holophane mark and patents numbers, the cages our also stamped. One very fine hairline crack in one of the diffusion plates, annoying but is very well hidden as runs within the lineal design of the plate, all others sections perfect. Each light also has its original heavy gauge brass chain, a reproduction brass ceiling hook, new brass bayonet b22 bulb holder, antique style three core silk flex.
