[Found untouched & covered with dust and silt in an early southern New Hampshire post and beam center chimney cape with attached barn]. Early to mid 19th century Ame ri can antique New England primitive vinegar grain painted wooden furniture & decorative wooden accessories. 17 3/4″ Length x 11 3/4″ Height x. Without its original hinged lid but with exceptional, early corner large, hand-cut dovetailed joinery. Unfortunately, at some previous juncture, someone took a hand scraper or hand plane and removed some of the paint decoration on the dovetailed areas of both painted short sidewalls. The painted front sidewall remains largely intact but is now missing its original metal, keyed lid locking hardware. One of the handcrafted iron, looped pin hinges that would have held the lid in place at the rear is still present, as is one of the affixed side leather lifting/carrying handles. No attempt has been made to replace the lid with another or to’in-paint’ the areas of missing paint where a less-informed soul removed some of the original and now nearly 200 year-old paint decoration on its corners. The real story here though is with its vinegar grain painted exterior, with its exuberant, lovely, squiggly vertical brush strokes that resemble a mop dipped in green paint and dragged right and left down its sidewalls over an ochre background. Still with its original period paper wallpaper lining its interior and still largely intact, although with some minor to moderate staining in places. 100% original and untouched. An extraordinary, genuine, early to mid 19th century Ame ri can Folk Art artifact and example of early New England primitive painted furniture and paint decorated wooden accessories. It may not be 100% intact or perfect but it remains largely untouched and an honest, now nearly 200 year old New England primitive artifact. Almost as old as dirt. Found in southern New Hampshire. Fair to Good overall vintage condition. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Decorative Collectibles\Boxes, Jars & Tins”. The seller is “modsanctuary” and is located in this country: US. I believe this to be from the 1700’s. Just come off an Old farm in Lancaster county Pennsylvania. It looks good for what it is and it should still be in working order everything seems nice and sturdy. RARE Antique PA GERMAN Early 19th C TIN Punch Decorated SPICE BOX Folk Art- This is a beautifully crafted early tinware spice box- these early boxes are very hard to find. There are some very nice decorative elements such as the raised lines around the box, really nicely made loop pull and the handmade hinge attachments which attach the lid to the bottom of the box, as well as the wonderfully done punch decorated design on the lid of the box and the nicely done solder work. We have found very few similar to this one in over 30 years of collecting. It has excellent naturally darkened patina and is in good to very good antique condition- it shows the natural oxidation of tin, and the solder is is good condition. It is hard to find this type of untouched/uncleaned original aged surface patina. The spice box measures approximately 3.5 in height to to top of lid. It is approx 7″ wide and approx 4.75″ in depth. Here we have an extremely rare pair of lions not shown in any of the books on yellow ware. This pair of recumbent lions on oval bases with a ridged band around the base are nicely molded and have a folk art appeal. This is a unique form produced by only a single potter. Measuring 6 ½” in length by 4 ¼” in height the lions are thickly potted on hollow bases. The lions are in excellent condition with only minor flakes on the base that don’t detract or take away from these magnificent animals. Any serious collector would be proud to add these to their collection. This item is in the category “Pottery & Glass\Cookware, Dinnerware & Serveware\Plates”.
