This is an exceptional antique artifact Ula from the Fijian Islands. The estimated age on this piece is late 18th century to early 19th. It is carved from an exceptionally beautiful and dense piece of ironwood and is what I would consider a large example when comparing to other objects of its type. Check my other listings for more oceanic art pieces like this one. There are some age related cracks (checks) none of which cause structural damage to the club. Please examine the photos closely and ask any questions prior to purchasing. The patina is absolutely gorgeous and the well worn tavatava chip carving on the handles show great age with many years in use.
Very rare classical inspired early 19th century wood box decorated with marbled paper and green glass’jewels. The main body is shaped & made of wood covered with marbled papers and decorated with gold trim and glass beads. The lid is made of firm card (not wood) and features the head and torso of a classical female. This box is in good condition for it’s age – there is damage to the lid marbled paper (top left) and some of the gold trim is missing. The base is in very good condition with clear blue marbled paper. The inside of the box is covered with plain cream paper and in very good condition. I bought this box in the 1980’s – it has been kept in a clean non-smoking home.
