VERY RARE EARLY-MID 19TH CENTURY FANEUIL HALL, BOSTON, MA ANTIQUE AME RI CAN OIL PAINTING ON CUT-OUT TIN DOOR PLATE, W/ARABESQUE SHAPED ENDS, BLACK. ENAMEL & SCROLLED GOLD GILT. DECORATIVE LINE & DRILLED. Early-mid 19th century Ame ri can painting & depictions of early Ame ri can period architecture. 9″ Height x 3″ Width. This incredibly rare and simply exquisite early to mid 19th century Ame ri can miniature oil painting of the famous, iconic architectural early structure, known as Boston, Massachusetts’ Faneuil Hall, is on a cut-out tin door plate, featuring arabesque cut-out ends, with black enamel and gold gilt scrolled decorative line, is in wonderfully well-preserved overall antique condition. It remains untouched and unmolested and in absolutely 100% original antique condition. It was just discovered on the North Shore of Massachusetts. This most likely late Federal to early Sheraton-period New England, early-mid 19th century antique architectural accessory relic, is an Ame ric ana gem and an important Ame ri can cultural artifact. Notwithstanding the fact that present-day Faneuil Hall (now Faneuil Hall Marketplace) is the 4th most-visited historic site out of the top 25 historic sites in all of the Unit ed Sta tes, this hand-painted, antique door plate features a vertical-format central, entirely hand-painted rendition of the iconic Federal-style Faneuil Hall, redesigned and expanded in the early 19th century by famed Ame ri can architect Charles Bulfinch, considered to be the father of Ame ri can architecture and the nascent nation’s first true Ame ri can architect. Very Good to Excellent overall antique condition. It remains untouched and in unmolested original antique condition. It is without damage except for some very minor black enamel loss around where an original metal fasteners once held the cut-out and pressed tin door plate snugly against an exterior door. Absent are dings, dents, abrasions, loss or scuffs to its remarkable surface. There’s also a single spot of black enamel loss at the very apex point of the the top arabesque cut-out top of the doorplate. However, the miniature oil painting of Faneuil Hall remains undisturbed and doesn’t suffer an abrasion or scuff to the entirety of its surface. This is an important piece of Ame ri can national cultural heritage and of our nascent architectural design impulse, featuring the work of the well-known father of Ame ri can Federal-period architecture, Charles Bulfinch, the architect responsible for none other than the famous Boston, Massachusetts Statehouse, North Church in Boston, Massachusetts General Hospital and the US Capital building in Washington, DC. This antique door plate is nearly originally constituted and in nearly museum quality condition. An extraordinary and important historical discovery. RARE EARLY-MID 19TH CENTURY AME RI CAN ANTIQUE TREENWARE, LATHE-TURNED SPOOL. THREAD HOLDER, W/WHITE CORD. Antique early-mid 19th c American treenware. 5 ½” Height x 4 ½” Diameter (widest point/ top). There’s an old drying fracture of the maple hardwood on the top, turned edge of the lid of the early to mid 19th century antique maple treenware thread spool holder. This was not the result of a concussion due to a previous drop, but more likely the result of drying of the wood over time, since the piece is nearly 200 years in age. This is an early piece of Americana and early American utilitarian, decorative treenware and its condition is commensurate with its age and previous use. This was not a purely decorative object that was put on a shelf and admired. Rather it would have been used and often used, since textiles were produced in the home and repairs were most certainly produced in the home. This is a rather early piece of American antique treenware and it has recognizable, characteristic fine, lathe-turned detailed lines. The maple hardwood is a wood often used by cabinet makers in 18th and early 19th century America and particularly in New England, where maple was tough and durable and would have withstood repeated abuse. It remains untouched and featuring original rubbed, naturally aged surfaces and patina. It has not been dusted or oiled. It remains in absolutely the same antique condition it was originally constituted in. A remarkable early New England cultural artifact and a splendid piece of early Americana. Good to Very Good overall antique condition. The item “RARE EARLY-MID 19TH C AMERICAN ANTIQUE TREENWARE TURNED SPOOL THREAD HOLDER” is in sale since Monday, October 21, 2019. RARE EARLY-MID 19TH C AMERICAN ANTIQUE WOODEN SPINNING TOP, WithORIG PERIOD PAINT
RARE EARLY-MID 19TH CENTURY AMERICAN ANTIQUE DECORATED WOODEN SPINNING TOP, W/ORIGINAL, PERIOD GREEN & RED STRIPES. New England 19th c decorated artifacts. 6″ Height x 3 ½” Width. Offered for your careful review and consideration is this incredibly rare and absolutely beautiful early to mid 19th century American, antique, hand decorated, painted wooden spinning top, with green and red hand painted stripes over yellow. The wooden top is hand carved and the central wooden top stem, which spools the cord used to pull the top and spin it, is notched to accept the cord and is painted red, with green and yellow stripes. The body of the top is painted differently than the stem, with yellow paint being the base color, instead of red and with green and red hand painted stripes. There’s what appears to be a remnant of a wound cotton cord pull string still tied and knotted to the wooden stem. The top has some minor material loss at the extreme bottom of the top, with some wood loss and now missing what would have been an inserted metal pin or nail, on which the top would have quickly spun. This loss demonstrates prior use and gives the top its honest, vintage pedigree. The top is absolutely 100% untouched and hasn’t been rinsed, oiled or cleaned. A remarkable 19th century artifact. You will spend many a moon looking for another like it. Incredibly rare and a wonderful example of early American painted wooden ware and cultural artifacts. From early New England with love. Good to Very Good overall antique condition. As mentioned previously, there’s some minor wood loss and the apparent loss of a nail or metal fastener, that would’ve been inserted into the tapered end of the top’s bottom, allowing it to spin freely on a wood floor when the string was pulled. The body is however, absent of fractures or noticeable flea-bites to its edges. There are a few minor scuffs and faint abrasions to its painted sidewalls. The top hasn’t been wiped down, washed, rinsed or oiled. It demonstrates prior use and what would have to be considered to be gentle or infrequent use, considering its overall well preserved condition. A truly remarkable, unmolested early 19th century New England artifact.
