RARE EARLY to MID 18th. CENTURY LARGE HAND PAINTED. DELFT WALL PLAQUE of a RURAL SCENE. This is a wonderful early to mid 18th. Century hand painted blue and white Delft tin glazed plaque of Dutch origin. In a square form with decorative cantered corners it depicts a lovely hand painted stylised image of a rural scene on the edge of a town environment with a group of three beneath a tree with agricultural implements in the foreground. It is contained inside a raised decorative border with a suspension point above, while the reverse has a light blue glaze and an under-glaze hand painted’P’ – see photographs and details. It measures 10 3/4 (27.25cm) Sq. Approx; and is in very good condition for a piece of tin glazed faience of its age however, there are two shallow very, very (they may even have been present when it was made) old sliver chips to the reverse bottom right hand edge and some small frits to its face side, to report – see photographs and details. This is a lovely, unusual Delft hand painted Wall Plaque with an interesting subject, which with a low start price should get a good deal of interest from all collectors.
