From an estate in the Bay Area owned by a woman from France who lived until her mid 90s. These were her parent’s. They are not 100% the same size but both are roughly 6 inches tall. They do NOT have the red EW/Turn Vienna stamp on bottom but there is evidence of a paper stamp on one. Perhaps they date from before their’marketing team’ designed the Turn Vienna logo. I know of no one else who used this particular design pattern/color scheme so I’m going with Mr. That’s all I got. Holler with any questions or concerns.
Antique early Art Deco Carved Panel Geometric Foliate Snake carvings Pine? A breathtaking antique early Art Deco carved panel from the 1920s featuring both geometrical and foliate carvings with a central snake-like motif flanked by beautiful rounded cornered spiralling triangles and leaves. The softwood is either pine or something similar. It has a low sheen/satin sheen wood finish in a rich medium oak colour on the front, back, top and bottom surfaces, the cut side edges being unfinished. He panel was salvaged from an otherwise plain timber wall panel. It sat as a top capping to the panelling, like a deep dado rail/frieze. This panel measures 36 W x 7 H inches (91.5 x 17.8 cm) and it is 1. Almost 1 3/4 inches (4.5 cm) thick. It weighs around 3kg. The width can be further reduced if required by sawing through the plain sections at either side of the central carved section which measures 17.25 inches (43.8 cm) wide. This panel has been in my personal collection for over 20 years. It comes from a smoke-free environment. In fabulous condition throughout. No faults barring a naturally opened horizontal grain line that runs through the panel from the left and some chipping to the right extreme edge of the top surface from sawing during salvage. On the underside there is a step (where it was once adhered to panelling) which has a strip of crusty glue residue. Please see the images. A rare pair of early 20th-century Art Deco candle holders made with one of the world’s first plastics – Galalith, a material even older than Bakelite. Galalith was invented in Germany around 1900, created from casein (milk protein) and formaldehyde, and quickly became prized for its elegant, marble-like finish and organic origin. Unlike later plastics, Galalith was not molded by heat – it was cut, turned, and polished by hand, which gives every piece its own pattern and texture. We performed several careful tests to confirm authenticity: – No reaction to Bakelite polish paste, which is expected for Galalith; – When lightly warmed, a clear scent of old soap appears – the distinctive hallmark of genuine milk-based plastic; – The surface shows fine natural flow lines and depth typical of early casein plastic; – A single green section weighs about 173 grams, consistent with the density of Galalith. These results leave no doubt: the material is authentic Galalith, produced during the early era of plastic innovation, before 1920s Bakelite manufacturing began. The bases and mounts are made of gilded metal, designed in the refined Art Deco style. Each candle holder stands approximately 17 cm tall with a base of about 11 cm in diameter. Condition: well-preserved antique condition with visible wear and gold paint loss in several areas, typical for age. No corrosion, solid structure. Pieces like this – combining Galalith with gilt metal – are extremely rare and sought after by collectors of Art Deco, early plastics, and European design history. #keywords Galalith early plastic pre-Bakelite casein plastic Art Deco candle holders 1920s rare collectible antique decor early polymer milk plastic historical plastic German material vintage brass decorative arts collectible pair Art Deco design early 20th century antique home decor European Art Deco vintage candleholders.
A very rare antique costume pendant, circa 1920. I have owned this for a great many years and never seen its like before or since. Made from early prototype plastics, it reminds me in some ways of the prison rings of the period. The pendant has an image of a woman set beneath an orange tinged, transparent plastic dome. This is then mounted within a larger oval plastic base which is opaque with a “burnt” orange colouration. Silver coloured metal bail affixed to top for wear on a chain. Measurements: 47mm drop length (from top of bail) by 34mm with a central depth of 9mm. In good antique condition; there is a small conchoidal chip to rim of back at approx 10 o’clock. Please see all the photos to appreciate.

This stylish plater came from the kilns of Wardle, a Staffordshire pottery works founded by William Wardle in the mid-nineteenth century. Each of the six sides a frame device in shallow relief, the rim has a subtle flare reaching outwards.
