A Victorian Explorers very rare’Tabloid’ medical chest by Burroughs Wellcome & Co. This case, covered in exotic crocodile skin comes complete with all 50 of its original labelled containers together with their contents. The crocodile skin suggests that this case was fitted out for use in areas with a hot climate. The case has a working lock and key and measures length 42cm Height 24cm Width 19cm. In great condition for its age, one container has its screw top missing, some restoration has been carried out on the case base covering. The case also comes with the following. A Burroughs Wellcome’Tabloid’ Hypodermic Tablet syringe kit in a silver clam case which tests for 800 standard solid silver. Frame marked with British registered design number Rd No 407323/4 for 1903. Perfect museum quality condition. Complete with needles and cleaning wires. Overall length of case is 90mm. This item was designed to be carried with the Burroughs Wellcome expedition case. A rare advertising pen/pencil/ letter opener with a tenuous link to Dr David Livingston c. This silver-plated item is in extremely good condition for its age (it has a couple of minor dents). With a propelling pencil, which has an unusual secondary feature in the form of a retractable fountain pen, with original nib. The blade on one side features an advertisement for tabloid compressed drugs with the words’ CARRIED BY STANLEY THROUGH DARKEST AFRICA’. This would be Henry Morton Stanley, the celebrated journalist/explorer. On the reverse it is marked with various medicine products. The main body has the words’ BURROUGHS WELLCOME & Co LONDON, whilst on the opposite side is written’LANOLINE”HAZELINE’. 1 tiny antique glass Pharmacy/Chemist/Apothecary funnel L 6.7cm-Dia 3cm in perfect condition. A glass pestle L 6cm & mortar 6cm Dia, both in perfect condition. A cased thermometer in good condition. A rare sized cased set of travel scales & weights. A quantity of 4 chrome travel containers with spring loaded bottoms for the included glass bottles all with tops, in perfect condition. 2 pairs of tweezers. I have also added a free Burroughs Wellcome catalogue/book in poor condition as a child has drawn on some of the pages.
