A Rare Brass Capstan Candlestick /Candle holder dating to mid 17th Century probably Northern European. A fabulous patina with capstan base (or bell base) type, tapered socket with round ejection aperture above a socle, Slightly incised drip-pan flaring upwards. Spreading circular foot featuring double incised concentric lines at foot. It has been repaired in the past as you would expect during its history and looks as though it was attached to a surface at some stage – see images. One expert did suggest this was mid 16th century, however, i believe the form lends itself typically to a 17th century style. Part of a private collection. This 18th century blacksmith made wrought iron candlestick is of European original origin; French or English, and brought over to America by immigrants. This was another great example of early lighting we have acquired from a collector who specialized in lighting and had assembled his collection decades ago. As you can see the piece has an adustable mechanism to the formation of the candle shaft, allowing the user to raise up the candle via the curled tabbed slider. Has a wonderful tri-legged design underneath a circular “up turned” drip pan. Retains the original top hook that would allow the piece to be transported or hung off the back of a chair when not placed atop a table. Some pitting expected for age. Candleshaft has a very slight tilt to it. All signs of age point to usage and expected wear from age. Stands approx 7 3/4 tall. Note the square nut and slightly out of round rivet to the bottom construction. Again a rare example thats been in a private collection for decades and fresh to market for the appreciator of fine lighting and early iron. Thanks for visiting us here at FoxRun-Farms! A very high-quality early Victorian sterling silver chamberstick candlestick. It is hallmarked for Sheffield 1846 with the makers marks being HW & Co for Henry Wilkinson & Co. It has been beautifully designed in an rococo style having a broad base and removable sconce, it also has a snuffer – all hallmarked. The whole piece is in superb condition being free from dings splits holes and repairs. It measures 5.5 inches (14cms) tall by 3.25 inches (8.3cms) across the base and it weighs 146 grams.
