RARE ANTIQUE EARLY 1800s BASKET WEAVE TEAPOT WEDGWOOD YELLOW WARE MINT

Dating to the early 1800s, this is one of the most spectacular and elegant small teapots you will ever find. This is the only teapot with a rim that sweeps up towards the spout and handle. The teapot is thin walled and was designed and molded by a master potter and has a finely detailed molded basket weave pattern extending around the body and lid. The lid has a small oval handle and a hole to vent steam and aid in pouring. Measuring 4 ¼ to the top of the finial by 7 ½ wide from the spout to handle, the teapot is in original mint condition with no damage or repairs. The teapot is not signed, but the design is similar to known Wedgwood teapots. This teapot does not appear in any of the books on yellow ware and looks even better in person than as shown in the photos. If you are a serious collector, this is one of the finest small teapots you could own. This is an early one, a rare purplish-white opaline glass, an ormolu cased bonbon basket with 2 lift-up lids, each with their own mother of pearl-accented 1 1/8 round architectural paintings. The two scenes are le Odelisk and Napoleon’s Triumphal Arch in front of the Louvre. Photos show the fine details, condition, measurements. Very good to excellent condtion throughout for age and type. No chips or flaws on the old early 1800s opaline glass, and no dents or losses on the intricate ormolu. The lids are not made with clasps, each side rises like a basket’s sides. And the center hinge is a pin-hinge, both sides connecting but totally functional. Measurements noted on photos. Description: A unique and very old Yavapai or Western Apache basket/tray with deer / dogs / crosses / geometric patterns, in the designs. A rare, old, polychrome (tri-color) basket. Maker: Unknown maker, but it is Yavapai or Western Apache in origin. Age: Antique, circa 1890s. Size: Measures 16 3/4″ across and 4 1/8″ deep. Condition: Fair for it’s age, normal wear and fading expected. Has minor stitch loss. Please look closely at the pictures as are an important part of our description.
