Medieval Bronze Spur. Early 14th to Late 15th Century. Extrememly rare
August 8, 2020
Early 14th to Late 15th Century. I found this with a metal detector around 30 years ago, and had it dated at my local museum where I was working at the time, it was also sent off to be treated for bronze disease. Unfortunately due to a house move, the documentation for the age evaluation and treatment was. Lost in the move, however you can find examples of this if you search online. This is an extremely rare find, as they are normally found in a broken state. I had it on long term loan to the local museum where I worked at the time, but took it back when the museum closed down for refurbishments as I was afraid of it getting mislaid. Sadly the museum in question never re-opened due to over budget spending issues, consequently. I have had it. Kept in an acid free box. Wrapped in acid free tissue paper. In a drawer ever since. I feel it should be appreciated by someone who would take great care of it, and hopefully have it on display. This would be ideal for the serious collector of Medieval antiquities.
