THE MATERIAL IS WHITE CLAY FOUND IN SHIMAZU REGION OF JAPAN. MINUTE CRACKLE LINES ARE ALL OVER THE VASE. THE VASE IS OF THE SATSUMA TYPE PAINTED DELICATELY AND BEAUTIFULLY WITH A LANDSCAPE. IN THE LANDSCAPE ARE FOUND A TREE, VARIOUS PLANTS AND FLOWERS, PHOENIXES AND OTHER BIRDS IN FLIGHT. ALL THESE ARE PAINTED DELICATELY ON THE VASE IN RED, LIGHT BLUE, GREEN, YELLOW, GOLD, PINK AND BLACK. REALLY” BEAUTY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER” FOR THIS ONE OF A KIND VASE. UNDERNEATH ARE THE SHIMASU CREST AND THE SATSUMA MARK PAINTED IN GOLD OVER RED. PRE 1870 SATSUMA WARES HAD NO ARTIST MARKS. HEIGHT 7.2 INCHES. MOUTH RIM 2.2 INCHES. BASE RIM 2.7 INCHES.
