A figure of a Russian Wolfhound dog made by Augarten during the original period of the early 20th century it was designed in. The figurine is the smaller version being 2.5 inches tall, 4.5 inches long and 2.125 inches wide. The dog is in perfect condition. Marked underneath with the blue shield with the crown on top as well as the word Wien underneath, an impressed number 1713/I, Augarten Austria in a red rectangle and a black painter’s number 74. Rare Albert Solon Carved Tile – S&S San Jose California – Arts & Crafts 1920’s. Large 8 Hand-Carved and Glazed Tile. Circa early 1920’s. Signed twice on the reverse, stamped into the clay. A very large example designed and carved by the hand of Albert Solon, who immigrated from England in 1912, became the Director of the Arequipa Pottery in 1912, and opened the S & S Tile Company with Frank Schemmel in 1920. Several deeply carved and glazed bowls in the same style and signed by Albert Solon are in collections and can be seen by searching Google for “Albert Solon carved bowl”. One bowl has a motif foliage and birds, and the same design of the leaves as used in this tile. WEIGHT : 2 lbs 10 oz. A museum quality American art pottery tile. Excellent condition with no crazing, hairlines, or cracks. There are two small shallow glaze flakes at the upper left of the design (easily repaired if desired – see close-up photos). This piece will be a quality addition to any collection of American Art Pottery and will display beautifully in any decor: Arts and Crafts, Stickley Era, Craftsman, Art Deco, Americana, Folk Art, or Contemporary. A fine late Commonwealth period silver Puritan spoon in the simple elegant style of the period. The Puritans did not approve of unnecessary ornamentation and this is reflected in the plain design and functionality of this rare survivor, which historically belongs between the earlier Seal Top and Apostle spoons, which had hexagonal stems, and the trefid spoons with their flat stems and oval bowls which came over with the Royal Court from France at the time of the Restoration. Owing to the short duration of their popularity and the scarcity of silver at this period in English history due to the demands of the war, Puritan spoons are very rare and sought after. The Spoon has the initials’RM’ engraved on the back of the stem, together with the London town mark, struck twice, and a maker’s mark TA above a mullet and two pellets, which is recorded on page 124 of Jackson’s’Silver and Gold Marks’. The date mark is worn away, and was in all probability poorly struck originally; you can see where it was on the upper stem, but only a small indent remains. There is a lovely crisp London Town mark in the bowl. This is a particularly pleasing and tactile spoon, smaller than some examples, in super collector’s condition, with no damage or repair and having a good colour. TA London 1655 – 1660. My silver pieces are ideal as special gifts, for collectors, for investors, or for resale by dealers. I provide clear descriptions and photos. The silver is photographed in flat natural light, but silver is so reflective that black spots from the camera and other reflections are sometimes unavoidable. RARE 10 LEGGED EARLY 20TH CENTURY NUPE STOOL. Bought at the great flea market of Port de Clignancourt in Paris, I’ve had this little beastie for twenty-odd years now. Clearly a very old example, this one bears it’s ancient termite scars proudly. Some residual and very old cream and green paint to be found here and there. Someone bashed a few steel nails in it long before it came to me. It’s old, it’s real, it’s firm and healthy, it has immense character and despite its looks, it won’t run away.
