Baxter Early RARE SIGNED 1900's Steiff C1908 Teddy Bear Antique Old FF BUTTON
Baxter – Early RARE SIGNED 1900’s Steiff C1908 Teddy Bear Antique Old FF BUTTON. Introducing Baxter – I love him! He dates to around 1908 and was made by Steiff. He is fully jointed, stuffed with woodwool and stands around 16.5inches tall from toe to ear tip! He really is such a joyous bear!!!! He retains his original boot button eyes, felt pads, original facial and claw stitching. He also retains his original burnt orange ribbon and ff button to his ear! Is also extra special as during the 1980’s his owner took him to get his foot autographed by Steiff Family members; Hans-Otto Steiff (who was president of Steiff, and his great grand-aunt was Margarete Steiff) and his wife Birgit Eitle Steiff! Baxter is covered in lots of fluffy blonde mohair with long limbs and a hump. He has a really friendly smiley face and would be an extra special addition for any antique bear collector. It feels a privilege to hold such a wonderful bear who is over a century old!!!! He is photographed here with his Teddy Baby friends and his best friend 1930’s Hoggle the brown steiff, who are all looking for homes. The photographs form part of the description so please look at them carefully. Any questions please message me :. If you have any questions, or would like more information, photos or videos (as photos never do justice). Please note this is a vintage toy that is not intended for small children. Rare Find Early Victorian Walnut Howard & Son's Fully Restored Club Armchair
There are around 50-100 high definition super-sized pictures at the bottom of this page. I have a Howard and Son’s sofa listed under my other items that has just been restored to the same standard. This chair has been on a journey, as you can see from the pre-restoration pictures it came to me with a rather bulky modern upholstery on it, I carefully and painstakingly removed the modern fabric to find a stunning rare walnut framed early Victorian Howard & Sons armchair complete with some original distressed upholstery, they had even taken the time to cut out the little H & S initials from the fabric. The back leg is stamped with the serial number, the castors are Cope & Collingson which is the only company Howard & Sons would use as they could make them to Howard’s specification. The chair has been fully restored as you can see, its been reupholstered by a third generation Victorian upholsterer and then hand dyed this lovely tobacco brown colour by my leather polishers, simply put this chair is the finest example you will find anywhere today. Howard & Sons are simply put the finest chair makers in history, the Queen even has a private collection. Width:- 74.5cm. Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask. A History of Howard and Sons. The name of Howard and Sons is probably one of the best known and highly sought after names in Upholstered furniture. Over the next few paragraphs I will do my best to give you a brief history of the company. The company was started by John Howard in 1820 trading from 24 Leman St, London as a Cabinet Maker. Over the next 25 years they would make several changes of premises within the Whitechapel area. First to 27 Great Alie St (Now just Alie St) before moving a short distance to 34 Great Alie St. In 1844 the company made its first venture into upholstered furniture by opening a showroom/workshop at 36 Red lion St. This was also to be a big move towards what would be their next and most famous location. In 1848 they moved to a new address much more accustomed with the name; Berners St. London as Cabinet Maker, Upholsterer and Decorator under the name John Howard and Sons. The business seemed to boom at this location with workshops opening up at Tottenham St, Charlotte Mews and Fitzroy Sq and an expansion to a second Berners St building in 1853. In 1869 the company consolidated its many workshops into the one building on Cleveland St. By 1872 the company was occupying 25, 26 and 27 Berners St. These adresses would remain unchanged until 1935. During this period they became a limited company in 1899 and won the first of their Royal warrants in 1901. In 1935 the the well established decorators Lenygon and Morant appear to take over the name with the business address being given as 31 Old Burlington St (Lenygon and Morants premesis since 1909). Lenygon and Morant later moved to South Audley St where from 1954 they advertised as’Makers of Howard Chairs and Sofas’. In 1967 the owners of Lenygon and Morant open Howard Chairs Limited, the company operating from Lyme St continue to make high quality sofas and armchairs. Exhibitions and Important Houses. At the 1862 International Exhibition (The 3rd World Expo) Howard and Sons entered a suite of library furniture for which they won a prize. They also went on to exhibit at the Paris World’s Fair, called an Exposition Universelle twice; once in 1878 and again in 1900. Also at the Exposition Internationale d’Anvers 1894 (International Exposition/World Fair Antwerp). Winning Prizes at them all including 1 silver and 2 golds. They also employed their eclectic styles working for many important clients providing furniture for important houses such as Sudbury Hall in Derbyshire, Elton Hall, Huntingdonshire and Stokesay Court, Shropshire. This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses SW19-3BE, we can have it delivered nationwide to include Scotland Wales and Ireland. Wimbledon-Furniture is a privately owned family ran business out of Wimbledon SW19, we have four large storage warehouses, if you have any questions my number is under the business sellers information, please feel free to call or text. Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition. Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade. Beautiful Early Big Rare Antique Staffordshire Spaniel Dog’s. Each One weights in at over 4 pounds(See photo’s of them on scale). These show all the obvious signs that they are real. Typical old base does not have casting holes. Note typical flaws such as firing lines, glaze frizzle, bumps and pitting(Shown in Photo’s with green arrow as you will see a bump and un-glazed spot on back tail on one) 3. Paint from the sides has dripped down over the edges of the base like on these you will see. Shows fine brush strokes on the muzzle and two dog’s are never painted the same like these two. Firing holes were made to release expanding gas which builds up inside hollow figures during firing. Typical firing holes average about one-eighth inch in diameter. Firing holes may or may not be present in original dogs. They may appear in the base or other locations such as the back 6. Most gold trim used on original dogs has a softer appearance than new gold trim & rarely has a mirror-like reflection, it is usually dull and almost always shows some random wear. Most gold trim used on original dogs has a softer appearance than new gold trim. Crazing in new glazes is often darkened with shoe polish, dark paint or vegetable stains either at the place of manufacture or after a piece has entered the market. Although many old pieces do show crazing, crazing is not in itself any guarantee or an indicator of when, where or how a piece of pottery was made, you’ll see that the old glaze/and crazing these dogs remain consistent from the underneath of the base through the body and face. The One to the right has some damage-either from it’s age or it took a bump at some point it’s very long life. The good news is-it looks to have never come apart into pieces-it’s tight and this area and not at all loose or coming apart. If you look at the detailed photo’s at the bottom with “small stick on green arrows” you will see where the damage suddenly stops. This is the only area of damage to both dogs. RARE EARLY GAE AULENTI PIPISTRELLO LAMP for MARTINELLI LUCE, ITALY 1965
For sale a rare, early example of a Mid-Century Modernist classic, the “Pipistrello” Lamp designed by Gae Aulenti in 1965 for Martinelli Luce of Italy. This large seminal Space Age lamp has a telescopic neck that allows for it to be used as either a table lamp or a floor lamp. “Pipistrello”, meaning Bat in Italian, derives it’s name from the iconically distinctive bat-wing shape of the shade. This example was sourced from it’s original owners and dates back to the early 1970s. The lamp is in very good vintage condition and has some marks and scratches, mainly to the lower brown trunk, commensurate with 45+ years of age and use but absolutely nothing to detract. The only issue of note is that the shade, which is seemingly in fabulous condition has got burn marks to the insides of the shade crevices, caused by having had it’s shade miss-mounted at some point in it’s history, and with one having burnt a hole through the shade. This is only noticeable if you look directly into the crevice (see photos) and faces the back of the lamp, however replacement shades can be ordered from Martinelli Luce, if need be. Approx measurements Max H: 90cm / Min H: 70cm / D of Shade: 54cm / D of base: 33cm. Due to the size, this is for collection only, from London N7 8NS (Islington). Thank you very much for looking and please check out our other listings. The item “RARE EARLY GAE AULENTI PIPISTRELLO LAMP for MARTINELLI LUCE, ITALY 1965″ is in sale since Thursday, January 3, 2019.
