RARE ANTIQUE EARLY 1800s BASKET WEAVE TEAPOT WEDGWOOD YELLOW WARE MINT
Dating to the early 1800s, this is one of the most spectacular and elegant small teapots you will ever find. This is the only teapot with a rim that sweeps up towards the spout and handle. The teapot is thin walled and was designed and molded by a master potter and has a finely detailed molded basket weave pattern extending around the body and lid. The lid has a small oval handle and a hole to vent steam and aid in pouring. Measuring 4 ¼ to the top of the finial by 7 ½ wide from the spout to handle, the teapot is in original mint condition with no damage or repairs. The teapot is not signed, but the design is similar to known Wedgwood teapots. This teapot does not appear in any of the books on yellow ware and looks even better in person than as shown in the photos. If you are a serious collector, this is one of the finest small teapots you could own. Venus holds Cupids chariot as he breaks his bow. This superb early Victorian period genuine Wedgwood jasperware pendant is made of solid 9 carat gold, with gold dual chain drop and seed pearl accents. An allegory of love, Cupid is seen breaking his bow as its no longer needed (the wearer has found love) and Venus, goddess of long term devotion, waits to take over. The detail is quite amazing as the piece is a wonderfully wearable small size. Cupids classical shell chariot is drawn by two lions – each separately depicted rather than duplicated, in an example of extremely high quality artistry. It dates from around 1850 and is in very good, fully wearable condition, with a shallow chip to the front of the panel at 11.00 – not easily noticed. It weighs 4.3 grams, its drop is just shy of 2 inches and the jasperware panel is 27 x 20 mm.. The final photo shows it with a US penny (1 cent) coin for scale, which measures 19 mm / ¾ of an inch diameter. Set of antique Wedgwood plates and serving platter in the early and rare Chrysanthemum pattern. Size of plates is about 8 1/4 DIA. Size of platter is about 14 1/4″ x 10 3/4″. Overall good antique contrition for their age. Some wear to gold and light crazing consistent with age. One plate is cracked with an old staple repair and has a pice broken off. This plate will be sent as a free item if you’d like, for glue or restoration. One plate has nicks to edge. Sighs of use to bottom of all pieces. All impressed with Wedgwood mark.
