Really unusual pair of 20th century Japanese (possibly Satsuma ware) vases decorated in almost European style reminiscent of rustic majolica. Each stamped’Made in Japan’ to the base. Antique Russian Wooden Box – Sergiev Posad – Early 20th Century – 11 x 10 x 5.5 cm – Hand-Burned & Painted Folk Art – Bilibin-Style Bogatyr – Russian Revival Style. This is a striking antique Russian wooden box from Sergiev Posad, crafted in the early 20th century. The lid features a vivid hand-burned and hand-painted scene depicting a bogatyr (Russian epic knight) on horseback, executed in the style of illustrations by the famous artist Ivan Bilibin. The imagery and decorative approach reflect the Russian Revival style (russkiy stil’), an important artistic movement celebrating medieval Russian heritage and folk traditions. Made from linden wood (a common choice for Russian folk crafts), the box showcases the classic Sergiev Posad technique of pyrography (wood burning) combined with hand-applied paints, resulting in a textured and visually dynamic surface. The hinged lid opens smoothly to reveal the original unfinished wooden interior, perfect for storing jewelry, keepsakes, or small personal treasures. A very rare antique costume pendant, circa 1920. I have owned this for a great many years and never seen its like before or since. Made from early prototype plastics, it reminds me in some ways of the prison rings of the period. The pendant has an image of a woman set beneath an orange tinged, transparent plastic dome. This is then mounted within a larger oval plastic base which is opaque with a “burnt” orange colouration. Silver coloured metal bail affixed to top for wear on a chain. Measurements: 47mm drop length (from top of bail) by 34mm with a central depth of 9mm. In good antique condition; there is a small conchoidal chip to rim of back at approx 10 o’clock. Very Rare Royal Doulton Kingfisher On Rock HN 224. Model Number: 258 (impressed to base). Issued: 1920 – 1946. Height: 3 1/2 inches (8.9 cm). Colours: Malachite, blue, green, orange and browns. Excellent Condition Assured – No cracks, chips, scratches, restoration or any other kind of damage. To note: There is a small area to the right wing whereby the malachite paint has not taken during the firing process, not damage as this is underglaze and as such the piece is in the same condition it left the factory. Some areas of crazing to the malachite only, top of head and left wing. These observations do not detract from this very rare piece and I do mention for complete accuracy. I have taken photographs with and without flash. Any white areas in my photographs are purely light reflection. Will be sent very safely packaged, as always.
