It did not produce a full range of ceramic articles but rather one-of-a-kind artwares. The company at first had just eighteen employees. Lenox’s products were first displayed at The Smithsonian Institution in 1897. According to the famous book. By Shirley & Jerry Sprung, Walter Scott Lenox founded the Ceramic Art Company in Trenton, NJ in 1889, but Lenox assumed complete control around 1895. In 1906, the name was changed to Lenox China Company. The early pieces marked CAC for Ceramic Art Company are coveted by collectors.
