Up for your consideration is this RARE C. 1930 BEAUTIFUL Antique Gebruder Plein German Porcelain – Budgerigar / Budgie Bird Figurine. 3 1/4″ high x 7″ long x 3 deep. It has a tiny chip at the tip of the tail that has been touched up and a hairline crack across the end of the tail feather. These are both hard to see but mentioned for accuracy (see last photo). This is a stunningly beautiful RARE Antique Early California Plein Air Desert Landscape Oil Painting on canvas, by early California Impressionist painter Armin Heying 1895 – 1972. This work depicts a gorgeous desert landscape scene, likely in the low deserts of Southern California, such as Palm Springs or the Coachella Valley. Fluffy white clouds, a vermillion blue sky and delicately painted mountains below accentuate this wonderful scene. Signed and dated: “Armin Heying 1956″ in the lower right corner. Approximately 30 x 34 1/2 inches including frame. Actual artwork is approximately 25 x 29 3/4 inches. Good condition for age, with a few small and barely noticeable tears to the canvas please see photos. Original period gilded frame has light scuffing and edge wear. There is also an old protective, white-colored coating applied to the verso of the canvas, which was a practice done in the 50’s and 60’s. Heying left his job on the railroad in Loutre, MO in the 1920s and settled in Anaheim, CA. He died there on Oct. An oil painter, his rare canvases include desert landscapes, and religious genre. Armin Heying was born in Missouri and worked on the railroad there. In the 1920s he moved to Anaheim, California. He was an accomplished painter, apparently self-taught, and always worked other jobs. His painting was done on the side. As he got older, he began giving art lessons. On the Orange County historical blogspot, a neighbor remembers him fondly, living on South Claudina Street in Anaheim, and painting in a studio behind his garage. An old newspaper article from 1957 describes how he donated 2 paintings to the Presbyterian Church on Broadway. The titles were “Gethsemane” and Resurrection. According to the 1940 Census, Heying was working as a superintendent at the Mutual. He died in 1972. This item is in the category “Art\Paintings”. This is a beautiful and RARE Antique 19th c. Early California Plein Air Impressionist Landscape Oil Painting on canvas, by the enigmatic and talented California artist John H. Von Keith 1835 -? This work depicts a lovely and tranquil lakeside scene with rocky outcroppings, calm waters, mountains in the distance, and a charmingly depicted flock of ducks in the lower right foreground. This work is signed and dated: J. Von Keith 1900 in the lower right corner. Von Keith’s works are very rare and have seldom been offered for sale. Despite his prolific career as an itinerate landscape artist across California, less than five of these paintings are known to still exist. Approximately 26 x 40 1/2 inches including frame. Actual artwork is approximately 21 7/8 x 36 1/2 inches. Overall good – fair condition for 120+ years of age, with several small tears to the upper right of the canvas, areas of yellowing varnish or nicotine residue, and fine craquelure in some places please see photos. Original period gilded frame has scuffing, edge wear, and some material loss along the edges. One of the stretcher bars has a mild fissure and would it benefit the preservation of this piece if it was replaced (photo 11). This painting would be a worthy candidate for a professional restoration, due to its beauty, rarity, and historical importance as an image of early California. John Von Keith is known for Landscape painting, writing. Von Keith was born in Cambridge, MA in 1835 into a wealthy family. Orphaned at age six, Von Keith was adopted by Senator Clark of California. Having studied at Harvard University and the Boston School of Design, he then led an itinerant existence. He visited 44 cities in the U. He was in Denver, CO in 1880 and by 1884 was a resident of Los Angeles. After a painting trip to the tropics in 1889, he had a studio-home in Oakland in 1892 and in that year made a trip to Oregon to paint the Three Sisters. His name appeared intermittently in the Los Angeles City Directory through 1912. Works Held: Orange Co. (Nancy Moure); City Directory; Von Keith’s Westward or 1000 Items on the Wonders and Curiosities of Southern California J. Green & Co, 1887. Von Keith was a landscape painter and writer who, after leading an itinerant existence, traveled to California in the late 19th century and made his home in Los Angeles.
