Rare Early Plastic Necklace c. 1910-1930 Likely Celluloid Natural Patina Antique

The necklace is preserved in its original pre-war construction and represents an authentic object of its time without later rebuilding or alterations. Material and colour Originally the material was light in colour – milky. Over many decades the plastic naturally aged and oxidised, developing a warm orange-brown tone. This colour is not paint and not artificial dye. It is a natural patina formed over many decades. The colour distribution is irregular, with transitions from lighter orange areas to deeper brown tones, which is typical for naturally aged early plastics. A polishing test with Simichrome paste revealed the original milky base colour beneath the surface layer, confirming that the present tone is a result of natural ageing rather than applied colouring. Patina and age marks The beads show numerous surface scratches formed during decades of life and use. Inside these scratches the patina appears darker, as oxidation accumulated in the grooves over time. These darker lines create a strong visual contrast and add depth and character to the beads. Rather than reducing the value, these marks form an authentic antique surface that collectors often appreciate as evidence of genuine age. Bead size and construction The beads are large (around 30 mm and more), typical for statement necklaces of the early 20th century. The drill holes are unusually wide, an engineering solution often used at the time to reduce internal stress in early plastics and prevent cracking. Weight Total weight approximately 80 grams. The beads are not hollow, but the wide internal channel reduces overall weight while maintaining the impressive bead size. Assembly The necklace is strung on a double metal cable, a characteristic feature of quality pre-war construction. One strand of the cable shows a break under one bead, while the second strand remains intact and securely holds the necklace. Metal and clasp Metal elements appear to be brass or bronze alloy with natural age patina. The clasp is a large ribbed screw clasp with a strong threaded mechanism typical for early 20th century necklaces. Testing When gently warmed by rubbing, the beads produce a brief sharp chemical scent that quickly transitions into a soft shampoo-like smell, which is characteristic for aged celluloid materials. Based on these observations and the tests performed, it can be reasonably assumed that the material is celluloid – one of the earliest synthetic plastics ever produced. For your consideration, i’m very pleased to offer this phenomenal antique handmade basket. Made in the early 1800s, this basket is one of the best that I’ve had the pleasure of offering. It has a dark, untouched patina and the most detailed God’s eyes I’ve seen. The basket maker had real skill and talent. For its age, it is in very good condition, but please take a look at all photos as it does have a few small breaks in the God’s eyes. It is free from significant flaw, and it comes to you from a smoke free home. It measures approximately 7 3/4 inches tall x 8″ x 7 3/4″. Please check my other listings.

This unusual size basket is a wonderful piece of country accutrimont that will add a touch of rustic charm to any home. The basket is made of wood and features a beautiful patina that has been preserved since its creation in the 1800s. It stands 11 1/2 inches tall and has a top diameter of 14 1/4 inches, making it the perfect size for storing small items or displaying as is. This is from my Wife’s collection. Now its time for someone else to enjoy it as much as she did.

Offering this antique wood splint handmade cheese basket. Measures 7.5″ T x 12.25″ top width x about 9 base. This is the first cheese basket I’ve had pleasure owning. Has a thick wood splint with an attic style patinated surface. In good overall condition. Does have a splint imperfection on the bottom as seen but no major damage that effects stability or look. Looks even better in person. Looks great as a dome upside down. So many ways to display this beautiful piece. Came out of New York. Some are attributed to Shaker but I’m not sure with this piece to say it is or isn’t. Expect minor imperfection consistent with age and use.

Offering this rare pair of antique wood Candleholders. Measure 21″ T x 6″ base. This is a pair from my collection. A wonderful pair of wood baluster form pillar holders with metal Candleholders and wood footed 3 leg base with early nails. Both display a dark worn natural patina and surface. One pillar is darker than the other as seen. These are in good overall condition with no major damage. Display beautifully on a mantle with the tall height they’re definitely an eye catcher. Expect minor imperfection consistent with age and use.

Offering this unique rare metal Candleholder. Measures 7″ T x 6.5″ top diameter x 5 base. This piece has a great form. Looks like a dark patinated brass on the inside. The back has an original worn black surface and base almost looks silver plated. Came out of PA. The top likely held a candle snuffer. I apologize for the glare, looks even better in person. Expect minor abrasions but no major damage and a sweet and unique holder.

Mousterian period – Neanderthal, Middle Paleolithic, south-west of France. Between 350 000 to 35 000 B. According to the typology of the tool, its weathering and context of discover, this tool may date back to the first half of the Mousterian period. Tool: rare, beautiful Early Mousterian Point, the iconic Multitask tool, knapped by our ancestor Homo Neanderthalensis at his beginnings, at the end of the Lower Paleolithic. Numerous marks of use and retouches visible. Material: Chalcedony + patina. Dimensions: 10,2 x 7,7 x 2,1 cm. Origin: Bergerac area, Dordogne, France. This artifact comes from an old French family collection. It was discovered before the 1960’s. Provenance statement and exact location provided, as well as Professionnal invoice. Offering this rare made early 1800s antique wood foot warmer. Measures 10″ x 8″ W x 7 T. This style warmer is hard to find. It’s in good condition. Constructed with handmade square nails. Displays a natural dark patinated surface and a slide lid as seen. No tray/pan was with it to hold the coals. Has the original metal swing handle. Expect minor imperfections and age lines consistent with age and use.
