Antique 14 early Jumeau hand pressed, closed mouth doll, rare 8 ball body
This is a very early (pre 1890’s) hand pressed bisque socket head French doll by Jumeau. She has her original set brown glass eyes and a lightly painted shaded closed mouth. She’s marked on the back of her head: 6. These early Jumeau dolls were marked only with a size number and they did not have the wide cheeks of the better known later Jumeau face. This doll has a professionally repaired forehead. It does not show on the surface. She came to me already repaired and I’m not sure what has been done but looking inside the head it looks like an upside down “V” shaped repair. I put a light in the head (photo #9) but the forehead has been air-brushed and doesn’t show much. Her eyebrows may have been touched-up but I believe the rest of her beautiful face is factory original. The area seen on the right side of her head (photo #8) is not a crack but appears to be an uneven paint layer. She’s on a straight wrist rare eight ball body that’s in great original condition and is well strung. This is a very old doll so there is some expected wear on the body paint. She came to me with no clothing. Her clothes have been entirely made from Victorian childrens clothing. She wears a very old hand made mohair wig. It is somewhat worn out but it’s what she had and may be original. Besides, I like the way it looks on her! It’s only pinned to the pate so it’s easily changed. The added head band is lightly sewn to the wig to cover the obvious hand sewn part of the wig. It’s easy enough to remove. This is an exceptionally beautiful doll, there are not many of these left in the world. The doll stand is not included. Thank you for looking at my sale. Rare 9 Early Kestner 169 LITTLE MISS MUFFET Closed Mouth Antique Doll Bisque
9 Rare Early Kestner #169. AS “LITTLE MISS MUFFET”. Fully Jointed Cabinet Doll. From the Mary Ann Hall Collection. Original Antique Doll – Made in Germany. Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet, Eating her curds and whey; Along came a spider, who sat down beside her… And she convinced the dear spider to stay! Mary Ann only collected the very best dolls. Little Miss Muffet Has Learned to Share! – Here you have a darling rare, early 9 Kestner 169 child, with closed mouth, on a fully-jointed composition body with straight wrists. Her bisque head is marked only with a “C”, the mold number 169, “Made in Germany, ” and what may be another “C” on the left (though it is faint). She has a lovely face, with bright blue glass paperweight (stationary) eyes. Her body in excellent original condition, with her original and beautiful full blond wig. After extensive research, I found that this doll is extremely rare and almost impossible to find, especially in great condition like this one. And she’s from a fine, reputable collection. She comes dressed in a Little Miss Muffet outfit, with her tuffet seat, an oh-so-cute felted spider, 2 bowls of “curds and whey, ” and two spoons… Because, of course, she has learned to share! Beautiful antique condition — from a non-smoking environment. No issues noticed on the bisque after careful examination. IMPORTANT: Besides the noteworthy issues mentioned above, EXPECT any antique doll (bisque/composition/leather/china/wood) to ALSO have: (1) SIGNS OF AGE – for example: toned/crazed/chipped composition, minor wig pulls, loss of “hair” lashes on bisque heads (if they had them), not-so-tight stringing, etc. (2) MINOR CONSERVATION WORK by previous owners/collectors – for example: reset eyes in most cases! , repairs to wig, repairs to clothing, touch-ups on composition/finish/paint, etc. Any MAJOR issues — hairline crack, total repaint, etc. – would be itemized above, but these normal age/conservation details are not. They are to be expected. I’LL BE GLAD TO ANSWER. If you live in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, or U. These countries have more flexible Priority Post options, but it depends on the size and value of the item you’re purchasing. And provided the items can travel safely in the same box. Opens in a separate window/tab. As often happens, it’s the few bad apples out there who ruin it for the rest of us. Not knowing what they’re doing. And then, when they realize they’ve ruined the doll, they return it saying it was defective. BUT HAVING SAID ALL THAT.. I do bend over backwards, attempting to disclose any noteworthy condition issues I can find or think of. But these are antique and vintage dolls — so, please understand that they won’t be in brand-new condition. There will always be some minor indication of their age, and it would be impossible to itemize every single pinhead-size stain on the outfit, or hairline scratch on the body. Please expect these types of conditions with old dolls. IT CONTAINS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION.
