Beautiful example of an old mug. Research indicates that this is mostly an early Masons or Staffordshire mug. There appears to have perhaps been a circular type stamp but this is difficult to determine. C is marked on the base. There is wear to the gilt for this piece and some wear/scratches including around the inside of the mug (see photos) there is wear to all examples of this early piece found online and so this is to be expected. Blue and gilt gold floral/foliage pattern. Early piece Circa 18-19th. 10cm diameter of base. 11cm diameter of rim. 16cm rim-end of mug handle.

The pattern depicts a garden setting with a vase and jardinière amid flowers and branches hand painted with an Imari palette of Cobalt Blue, Iron Red, Pink, Green, Yellow and Peach. The mug is octagonal in profile with a Unique Flared Base and an Impressive Serpent or Snake Shaped looped handle. It Displays Wonderfully and measures 5 inches tall; 7 inches across at the base; and 8 ½ inches across, including the handle. The piece has the Masons blue crown backstamp plus a circular impressed mark that dates it to circa 1815. It is in Very Good condition, especially for its age more than 200 years old. There are no chips or damage to the piece. There are slight separation lines / narrow gaps from the manufacturing / firing process where the handle meets the body of the jug (last two photos). It only adds to the character and authenticity of the piece and it remains solid and the integrity is not compromised. The main decorations are vivid and bright. The peach lip paint has faded over time. There is a short brown line at the impressed mark that is not a crack (photo 10) and a few pieces of left over material captured under the glaze on the interior of the mug; again, this is from the firing process.
