A very rare pair of Japanese Cloisonne vases in the manner of early works by Namikawa Yasuyuki. In the early stage of Namikawa’s career sometome in the 1870s, he was known to develop a complex translucent enamel technique over copper which produced the orange/red type enamel referred to as cuprite. Published research and similar examples of this type lead to a potential attribution. The vase form adds to the rarity. Possibly candlesticks or given the Buddhist motifs, it’s possible they were for flower vases on an Altar display in a Buddhist temple. 18 cm // 7 inches height There are some condition issues, notably around the mouth rim of one vase.
