Welcome To My Store. Antique Sculpture Lion Bronze Whip Circus Statue Figure Decor Art Rare Old 20th. Dear Buyers & collectors, We are Pleased to offer you a Gorgeous Unique Antique Beautiful. Very beautiful art work jewelry. Length: 18 cm at the base. Width: 16 cm at the base. Height: 46 cm in total. The Lion Tamer, Rare Art Deco Bronze By Jean Verschneider. An art deco period bronze quite rare on the market and masterfully made by Jean Verschneider, a famous sculptor at that time who was interested in many very varied fields: the circus and fairground arts, mythology and allegories, the realization of automobile mascots. Jean Verschneider was a French sculptor. His work was part of the sculpture event of the 1924 Summer Olympics art competition. And finally when you look closely you find here on this bronze some similarities with the work of Demeter Chiparus. Our bronze represents a lion tamer in stage costume, probably performing a circus act, his particularly studied costume taking up the art deco standards of the time and drawing inspiration largely from classical antiquity. We believe we see a gladiator or Persian warrior straight out of ancient Greece. He is posted in a very virile attitude in contrapposto, his left arm stretched upwards and holding a whip, his right arm almost resting on the roaring lion at his side. Of course no one is careful enough and we see the man’s gaze resting on the lion he dominates. Nevertheless the sculptor was able to restore not only the strength that emanates from the two beings in this circus act but also their necessary communion. A subject which is not easy to render in sculpture without going overboard towards the vulgar or the grotesque. Here the two protagonists are superbly treated and form a beautiful duo the carving details are very fine: take a good look at the man’s face and the details of his stage costume including the whip, but also the lion’s mouth and the way which its fur is treated. The patina is magnificent, a brown patina verging on green with slightly bronze effects which is completed by a very beautiful base in sea green marble whose shades of green and black color combine perfectly with the nuances of the patina of this bronze. A very beautiful art deco bronze, a very interesting subject. 46 cm high by 18 cm long at the base by 16 cm wide. In good condition as on the photos. They look just gorgeous! ANTIQUE RARE MILITARY BELT BUCKLE WITH LION GILT BRASS BUCKLE – EARLY MILITARY. Very interesting and scarce antique belt buckle – the belt seems to be standard British army belt that was first used in the 19th century, bullion thread onto red leather with compartments to the inside. The buckle itself is frustratingly difficult to pin down to a country or regiment, the metal has been gilt and not machined like the ww2 era buckles which leads me to suspect it’s earlier. Adorned with acorns by belt loops – reminds me of the German buckles but of course no lions although the ottoman lion with German acorns may represent the ww1 alliance? Perhaps an ottoman regiment? It’s a bit of an enigma, although the quality and age speaks for itself! This item is in the category “Collectables\Badges & Patches\Collectable Badges\Military Badges”. If it was ever produced or just a craft piece. I believe this classic great looking piece is somewhat early as it has some age cracks in the finish across the nose. The density of the cracks is very low as they have some real distance between them, they are not as tightly nit some other items I have seen on other pieces that have real age. The item is porcelain I believe…. However the back unfinished edge looks similar to dark red brown like terracotta but I have no idea if it is… The bottom tooth has been repaired and the the finish of the repaired tooth is not matching the others (it is noticeble which is why the adjusted price). This is fine piece with real presence as you can see from the pictures and is ready to hang on a wall. This item will really set off the space with that little something that can really set the tone for the area. 8.5 from top of hair to bottom of chin. Roughly 8 at its width/widest point. 5 1/2 deep from the wall to the tip of the nose. 8″X6.5″ opening on the back. You will be purchasing the exact item that can be seen in the pictures and described in the title. Thanks for looking at my items good luck, Rob and Kathy.
